Nightly curfew back on as BVI’s active COVID cases surge to 480
Health Minister Carvin Malone moments ago reported that there are now some 480 positive COVID-19 cases in the BVI.
In light of this massive spike, Malone said the government is reimplementing a night-time curfew for the territory. Starting, Tuesday July 6, this curfew will be between 11 pm and 5 am for 14 days, in the first instance.
“These new measures are expected to be gazetted for implementation if not tonight [then] tomorrow,” the Minister said in his late-night broadcast on Monday.
The Health Minister also announced several restrictions on various local institutions. Additionally, establishments such as clubs and gyms are being ordered closed. All these new policies are also to take effect tomorrow.

Curfew is just ridiculous. Most of the other measures are ok but the curfew isn’t. Plus are they paying the people they just shut down for 14 days?
Why blame the unvaccinated for the increased cases??? They were many people unvaccinated for MONTHS and there was no rise in covid cases….but all of a sudden , a huge spike in covid cases.
Blame who you like. But the unvaccinated are about to pay the price.
Not surprised at all. This was expected with the reopening. But when a few bad apples deliberately and willfully go contrary to rules of safety for all, things will go bad.
As such, witnessed about a month ago, on occasions since, tourist walked into an establishment without mask. They were informed that they needed to wear one. They exclaimed had not one. They were made to purchase one from said establishment. They then place the mask on the face, did not cover their noses, proceeded to a corner of the establishment out of view of the employee, and took the mask off of their mouths and proceeded to peruse the store unnoticed by the employee. This was brought to the attention of the employee, but she appeared afraid to confront them.
Who knows whether those people were infected and carriers or not. If they were, they seemed not to care about infecting others. In fact, they seemed intentional in doing so. Such is the mentality of a certain kind of people.
There is a profound possibility, then, that the rise in the number of infections in the territory are directly related to tourist/visitors who are deliberately scuffing the mask wearing requirement.
Hence, just as the government is adamant about vaccinations, they should also be so about masking and sanitizing, and making it clear to all visitors, come here, you are welcome Coem here, buta nd obey the rules or don’t come at all.

After seven consecutive tries you’d think you would spell the word ‘planned’ properly. So what exactly did you research Dr? Seems like your comprehension skills are left wanting.
The unvaccinated are traveling to St Thomas and beyond, visiting with their unvaccinated brethren and bringing Covid to the island. Upon return they were ignoring the required testing and quarantine periods. Only ones that did the right thing were the vaccinated whiteys. Now the Covid going to run through the BVI. You will reach herd immunity by you all getting Covid. Those that live, live and those that die, die. No need for curfews, testing or any other nonsense.
Blame the Premier it’s ok to not not to quarantine fully vaccinated person but they must be tested upon entering and if negative happy for them but if positive well we know how to contact trace, but that move our Premier made put us all at risk and it was careless on his part.
They playing the game well because they want us to get vaccinated but if they are sure of the vaccine why they don’t hold themselves accountable if any of us run into complications as a result of this vaccine none want to be held accountable because within themselves they not it’s not good and a money making thing consider August festival off so don’t invest in it or you will regret it.

I don’t think anyone is surprised with the slackness that has been going on. Many choose to wear their mask below their nose and those who are vaccinated don’t see the need for them to wear masks. People have turned this into a vaccinated vs unvaccinated issue. There’s unvaccinated individuals who wash their hands, wear their mask and social distance…and the attitude towards the unvaccinated is disturbing.
Simple solution. Get vaccinated
@ Ticktock. So they finally admit that exempting the vaccinated from testing and quarantine was a mistake. However instead of doing both they decide they would only require a rapid test on arrival. These tests are unreliable as they register false negatives. A quarter baked solution that would lead to more cases.

Who to blame? The people that have multiple signs posted talking about no mask no service but yet people with no mask getting served from people with no mask.
And some misinformed people believe because they are fully vacinated they can go without mask looks like some body will have to go to eavh community with a blow horn to explain or further break down things to who just cAnt understand the protocols concerning covid. The announcement by the Minister is appreciated. However, the time was rediculous because some of us can and must still go to work and if we have small children we have to call our bosses to say schools are closed so we cannot make it in to work. I would have like the privilege of giving my boss more notice and planning properly because not all of us work for Government.
Surely your Boss heard the Minister. Or is Your Boss the Government. People just likes to complain.
The reality is…. if we were all vaccinated, even if the numbers spiked like this then there would be no need to panic and no need to start shutting things down again…. that is the truth. Unfortunately due to so many who refused the vaccine we now have to shut down businesses again and there is no end in sight. Dr. George’s statement clearly showed a much higher percentage of unvaccinated who have tested positive – it’s no longer an issue about who started it, but it is clear the unvaccinated are catching it in higher numbers and they are more at risk of serious complications…. so we are shutting down to protect them.

This is indeed such a sad occasion. Will those who send all the alalades now take them back. Will the authorities who bathe in the alcalades now hide their faces. Someone somewhere drop the ball, we need to with precise accuracy find where. Obviously now it can not be the unvaccinated, who has been the scourge of the society in recent months. How many times will people have to be told that the vaccine prevents nothing.
All they said was that you may not die but you can infect and be infected.
Curfew should be from 9pm to 5am and also there should be free testing available for all persons living here. We do not know who those posotive cases are so how are we to know if we came in contact with them or their contact so thats why everyone should be anle to get tested free of cost.

Needs to be from 7 am to 6 pm! the essential working business will have enough hours to operate and everyone else keep off the road when necessary.

Who decided the rule or law that a Vaccine can be approved by the FDA temporarily if it is labeled a “Pandemic”? And who is the authority and decides on whether the situation is a Pandemic? The CDC, a business Corporation in the business of developing vaccines for profit? Curious, of the positive COVID cases, how many require hospitalization? Anybody vented?
I personally believe it’s been circulating, and that it’s not merely more cases, but just more testing being done. I think people will survive this. COVID-19 is not a death sentence, but still a contagious disease. Cover your mouths. Wash your hands. Hydrate. Eat your fruits and veggies. Get some sunlight and fresh air. Take care of yourselves and each other.
