No injuries reported after Huntums Ghut shooting – RVIPF

Police said they did not find any proof of injuries following reports of gunshots in the Huntums Ghut region after 8 pm on March 23.

Residents reported hearing several loud gunshots near a popular bar in the area. But police said in a brief release on Sunday, “Following a thorough search of the vicinity, no evidence relating to the reported incident was found, and as of the time of this release, no individual has been found or reported injured.”

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) promised to continue investigations into the report and urged the public to assist in identifying individuals who may be recklessly discharging firearms.

The shooting comes just one day after police confirmed that one person was left nursing injuries following a shooting incident near the Multipurpose Sports Complex.

The identity of the gunshot victim in that incident was not confirmed officially and investigations into that shooting are still ongoing. However, police said the person was treated at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital.

Police expressed concern over the increasing number of incidents involving the possession and use of illegal firearms in the territory, stressing the importance of the community’s collaboration in addressing this issue.

In the meantime, the RVIPF urged anyone with knowledge about the reported shootings or people with illegal guns to contact Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS) or, if abroad, at 1-284-800-8477 in confidence. Persons can also contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit by calling 368-9339.

This thing about Gunshots being heard all over the Territory was going on since the year two thousand (2000) and before that.

It has become normal to hear them now. I had been hearing Gunshots so often that I am not afraid anymore because it is normal – like the wind blowing.

I made several complaints to the Police and Government Officials about these Gunshots in my community especially in the Purcell Estate Community – but that’s a joke to them. It doesn’t make any sense talking about that anymore.

Moreover, we have so many Shootings, Unsolved Murders and Drug Smuggling in this Territory that has become normal as well – like the rain falling.
