No longer in hurricane mode, VG Easter Fest returns to full slate of events

The Virgin Gorda Easter Festival scheduled for April 20 to 22 will be back to its full slate of events this year.

Treasurer of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Committee Cleo Brewley-Besson told BVI News on Thursday that the pageants, the parade and other events that were struck off the list last year due to the effects of the 2017 hurricanes will be back.

“We needed to get back on track with things and not be in hurricane mode two years down the line. So it is definitely time to move on and bring things back to some sort of normalcy. We are back to normal this year with the Prince and Princess show, the Miss Virgin Gorda pageant, the parade, and the food fair,” she said.

Brewley-Besson said the Prince and Princess show is slated for April 6, while the Miss Virgin Gorda pageant is scheduled to be held on April 13.

Line up

The Easter weekend will begin with a food fair on April 20 from 9 am to 6 pm, followed by the official village opening.

Following the opening ceremony, one international artiste along with local bands and deejays will entertain patrons until the wee hours of the morning.

On the evening of Sunday, April 21, there will be a Calypso review show featuring guest calypsonians, which will then lead to a J’ouvert on Monday morning.

The parade will follow later that afternoon. Village entertainment featuring an international artiste will bring the weekend of festivities to a close.

When asked whether the international acts were confirmed for the event, Brewley-Besson said discussions are still underway with a few artists, and more information will be forthcoming closer to the festival.

She also declined to state the size of their budget allocation for the staging of this year’s festival.

This would not be back to the full slate, because this would two years that Virgin Gorda don’t have a calypso competition. All of us look forward for this. I don’t know where have place to competition on the back burner for a calypso review. Come better man. Sis Joyce is back.
