No more dirty laundry at hospital

When the washing machines at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital suddenly failed last week, health professionals were left with more than just dirty laundry piling up.

At stake was patient comfort, infection control, and the seamless care that the people of the Virgin Islands depend on every single day.

But instead of letting the crisis soil the quality of care, one businessman turned the problem into an opportunity to show what true community partnership looks like.

Within 24 hours of hearing about the urgent need, Mr. Lesmore Smith of Top Priority Security Services donated three brand-new semi-commercial washing machines to the hospital. The BVI Health Service Authority team moved quickly to install them, ensuring that hospital operations — and patient dignity — were never compromised.

For Acting Chief Executive Officer and Director of Hospital Services, Ms. Rhonda Williams, the gesture was more than just a donation.

“This is a powerful example of how our community and the Authority can come together to protect the continuity of healthcare services,” she said. “Strategic partnerships are a cornerstone of our newly launched Strategic Plan, and we are deeply grateful to Mr. Smith and Top Priority Security Services for their timely and generous donation.”

Smith, a longtime supporter of the Authority, reminded the territory that healthcare is everyone’s responsibility.

“The hospital belongs to all of us. When Ms. Williams contacted me about the need, I knew I had to help,” he shared. “Supporting BVIHSA means supporting the entire Virgin Islands community. I encourage others in the private sector to join in strengthening the services that we all depend on.”

In the end, what began as a pile of dirty laundry became a shining example of public–private partnership at its best.

It was a reminder that even in moments of crisis, when the territory’s most essential services are at risk, the community can rally together to ensure that nothing — not even laundry — stands in the way of compassionate, uninterrupted care.

Let me hear from Vincent on this. The Hospital should have heavy DUTY commercial Was Here/dryers, boiler with steam, not domestic stuff like this. Crazy, but not suprising cause public work has a pickup truck waiting for a fuel pump for months now yet they have a rental now for how Long, could have bought several fuel pumps or maybe another pickup. We Are really behind in the BVI

gonna put a f**k this and f**k that in here so its not posted.

If you turn off the comments on Walwyns post it only hurts his cause. Also hurts bvinews cause, looks more biased towards him, and you already do. The people already feel strongly about Mr. Walwyn. Keep pressure on the Government and surely, Mr. Walwyn and his supporters will rise.

Qualified, competent, knowledgeable and politically capable leadership are some of the intellectual qualities anyone aspiring to the second highest seat in government should possess. In fact, they must be mandatory.

More, becoming “Premier” should not be a favoritism contest, but one who can lead the country and people forward. A simple mind cannot do that with any degree of competence.

Further, some continuously air the view that a certain capable Black man should never be allowed to ascend to the Premiership.

Yet, the same politically shallow minds are most comfortable neither with one who is neither a “local VI-lander” nor of the same racial and cultural heritage to hold the highest seat in the land.

Moreover, a seat that neither of them nor any other “local VI-lander can ever aspire to, which in itself is colonial relic that does not represent democracy or the true political representation of the people..

If that is not a glaring example of political ignorance, then Ning should come home and run for governor and bring Inger as his running mate.

The truths are, the Virgin Islands need a political emancipation and rejuvenation, as political incompetence and wayward governing mechanisms are leading the country backwards, while placing the territory at risk of becoming insignificant on the world, business and economic stage.

Last, there is now a greater need for new, effective, competent, politically hygienic, progressive, country and people oriented minds for governance. The politically history of the last three decades in particular has taught us that.

Hence, the people must become politically mature and unite as one, and learn to make sound political choices not based on friendship or family relations.

Only when that political transformation has occurred within the people will they elect people that will bring to bear the desired outcomes that the people desire and country needs.

Some will not like the message or the messenger, but truths are truths and facts are facts. No thumbs down indication will change those realities.

This is a prime example of the level of impovrish management that plagues the healtcare system. Can’t even plan for the timely replacement of aged washers.

When the government rather take money to sponsor party while our much needed departments suffering it’s a shame. And this ain’t needed to be news. The same hospital board give this man another contract where he’s making millions to provide low Quailty security services. So why donating 3 cheap washers make the news. Strupzzzzzzzzz.
