No more physical work permit renewal applications after October

The Labour Department will no longer accept physical applications for work permit renewals after October 31.

Instead, all renewals must be submitted through the Labour Management System (LMS) beginning November 1.

Employers are advised to contact the department for training to access the system. For assistance, they can call 468-6559 for Virgin Gorda or 468-2006 for other islands.

Launched in July this year, the LMS fully digitises the work permit renewal process. Deputy Premier and Labour Minister Lorna Smith noted that the initial phase of this digital platform began in 2021.

The LMS is designed to significantly reduce application turnaround times and improve access for both employers and job seekers.

Smith previously revealed that 60 percent of the territory’s workforce relies on work permits, and the LMS will expedite processing, reducing approval times from two to three months to just a few weeks.

  1. Promises promises says:

So basically no more work permit renewals from 1 Nov.

Great that the UK OT minister is visiting here in November when this renewal system is promised to operate.

  2. Employer says:

I attended the seminar for familiarsation with the new on-line system. It is impressive and well designed. Not only can renewal and new work permits be submitted on-line, Employers can post jobs on-line and job seekers can upload resumes for potential employers to review. This system will save mounds of paper from many trees moving forward…

      @ Employer

Are you saying they designed a system that Tortolan government employees can’t screw up?
That doesn’t even take into account the constant power outages, poor internet service etc…

This is crazy. So the old lady who needs a home care help will have to buy a scanner and computer.
