No swimming at The Baths | Dangerous seas ahead
The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has forbidden swimming or mooring at The Baths on Virgin Gorda.
The DDM gave the warning ahead of significant hazardous conditions that will start affecting northern local shores.
Rough waters are expected start on Friday night, March 2.
“A dangerous northwest to north swell is then expected to impact the islands abruptly Sunday and continue through midweek next week,” the DDM said.
Strong winds are also expected to move southerly on Saturday and westerly on Sunday, which the DDM said is a ‘shift’ from the norm.
“Residents, small craft operators, sea bathers, and persons living in coastal communities particularly on northern shores are urged to pay attention to the advisories being issued to safeguard property and loss of life.”
“Seas are expected to increase from nine feet late Saturday with the possibility of increasing up 19 feet by Monday.”
