No UK permission sought to make Wheatley minister again

Minister Vincent Wheatley

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has rebuffed claims that Ninth District Representative Vincent Wheatley was not fit to sit in Cabinet and has further dispelled the belief that the government had to seek permission from the United Kingdom to make Wheatley a minister after the April 24 elections.

The rumours that Wheatley wasn’t allowed to serve as a government minister reportedly surfaced in the aftermath of the Commission of Inquiry, when Wheatley gave up his post as Minister of Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration.

But at a recent press conference, a journalist asked Premier Wheatley whether he had to seek permission from the United Kingdom to make Wheatley the new Minister for Health & Social Development.

“No conversations were had with the UK about reinstating him as a Minister. We know there were lots of rumours that he couldn’t sit in Cabinet and we always knew that those rumours were false. The governor himself confirmed that he had no hand in selecting the Cabinet,” Premier Wheatley stated.

Good and experienced leader, D9 to benefit

He further hailed the Ninth District Representative as a good and experienced leader who is capable of handling his new portfolio. The Premier added that now that Wheatley is the Health Minister, the Ninth District will benefit greatly as their representative is now in a position to solve many of the healthcare challenges in their community.

“As it pertains to health, we thought he’d be a good person to take that portfolio forward. He is the Representative of the Ninth District and they have some very unique challenges in terms of healthcare. He’ll be very sensitive to those concerns and I think he’ll help the Health Services Authority. He’ll provide the leadership needed to ensure they serve all the people; ensure we have equity across our four main islands as it pertains to the delivery of healthcare services,” the Premier said.

Wheatley was first elected to the House of Assembly in 2019. He returned to the House for a second term after the April 24 elections after he captured 491 votes, clobbering his one-time party-mate Shereen Flax-Charles and two others.

He will serve as acting Premier and Minister of Finance for the period May 5 to13 while Premier Wheatley attends King Charles’ coronation in the United Kingdom.

  6. Ugh says:

Will he still be able to shake down the rich white people in his district as Health Minister? As Natural Resources he let all sorts of stuff happen that undoubtedly had Nail Bay money behind it. Just like the previous D9 rep who definitely knew how to make it work

Wheatley clobbered his own self by making promises that was not kept.If he had done things in the district neither his one time mate or the NDP candidate would have gotten so many votes.A win is a win but he only won the NDP candidate by seventy six votes he should be asking himself what he did wrong and i am sure if say the other cadidates had more time to campaign he would not have won.

More time to campaign would not have made a difference. People knew from the start where they were placing their votes, so no long campaigning would have made any difference. A win is a win is a win, even if it was 1 vote difference, it would have still be a win. You NDP followers are really salty bad. General Elections 2023 is complete. Rest it down once and for all

The new plan is for JVD to leave the BVI and join the USVI so that island gets some form of recognition in a legislature.

Next D9 will go independent and this minister will have to vacate his Health ministry to go home and face the music.

Meanwhile the HOA on Tortola reverts back to it’s 12 member puppet/unity style of government controlled by the UK through the guv.

Election 2023 fails to change anything on Tortola and life on this inferiorstructure island goes on.

    O boy
Let’s hope that no expats need any health care assistance from upper authority then….This man has no empathy towards expats. NONE!

Do it’s Carvin our Premier didn’t want?

  19. @true lies says:

OJ said the same thing about Fraser when he launched too; that Fraser won’t be able to hold a seat. He said it on stage with the Premier on it.

  20. @Des says:

Didn’t you hear? Hon. Premier, plus Deputy Premier, Plus Minister for Communication and Works, plus the Minister of Education all took a plane and left island at the same time. Hopefully they are not ont he same flight. Who is watching the hen house?

This young Government and elder DP is not unconventional. They are plumb crazy. God, please bring them back safely.
