Not an easy road for Unity Gov’t — Mitch

Representative of the Second District where Jost Van Dyke is located, Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull.

Minister of Natural Resources and Labour Melvin ‘Mitch’ Turnbull has hinted that the BVI’s affairs were not in a good state when the Government of National Unity assumed power earlier this year.

While making a statement in the House of Assembly on October 25, Turnbull seemed to be berating some his Opposition counterparts when he said there are “individuals who keep rising up as if they have all the answers” instead of helping the current government to fix the problems which they helped to create.

“Don’t tell me you have all the answers because you were there. You helped to create some of this mess so help me fix it. But don’t come at it with all this bravado as if you have all the answers and you have it all together,” Turnbull argued.

“Don’t try to rise as a hero because if people should pull open your file and uncover some of the things that the five of us (government ministers) are here seeing … it’s not an easy road, who feels it knows it,” Turnbull said.

Turnbull said it seems everyone wants to criticize the National Unity government to score political points. But he said a greater effort needs to be placed on working together to improve the BVI and secure the country’s future.

“Everybody has a microscope on us, waiting for us to fail so they can rise to power. But what are we rising to if we don’t work together?” Turnbull questioned.

Earlier this year, local politicians formed the coalition Government of National Unity and presented it to the United Kingdom (UK) after the country threatened to suspend the BVI’s constitution and snatch power away from local leaders.

Many have said the National Unity government is more focused on pleasing the UK than addressing the needs of the people in the territory.

The worst Government department in a set of bad Government Departments and you’re talking of the victimization of the Labour Commissioner. The same one that pouted and took two months off to further throw the department into even more chaos to make some point? That point being the very same ‘power’.

The fact that this Department thinks it is doing to right thing by dragging their collective feet and showing the whole country how bad they can be because they have a gripe with the Minister is pathetic! The only pain being felt is to our country and economic standing

Why don’t you step up and do your damn jobs and do your part to get this economy going again rather than accusing the Minister of exactly the same thing you crave. Power!

Both Minister and Labour Department should be ashamed – your petty, narcissistic battles are costing the country!

You have aptly described yourself Hon Turnbull. Look within. The Unity Government are only interested in the power and titles currently held as Ministers.

Well its not an easy road, but they can’t even do something simple like appoint the chairperson of the Labour Tribunal, effectively holding up people’s cases.

Governance is too hard for our BVI politicians it seems. We need to join the USVI. All together now, let’s join the USVI.

It’s not an easy road, who feels it knows it. Some say you were so eager for power you jump ship for a Ministry that you know you could not handle. You wanted it, now deal with it even if you have to stay up all night.
