Not keys to the city, VI gets keys to Floridian county!

The BVI has been given the keys to Broward County, Florida.

Premier Natalio Wheatley and Works Minister Kye Rymer received the award on behalf of the territory.

“We originally said [we’d receive] the key to the city, but we got upgraded to the key to the entire county. Holding the keys to Broward County, Florida — a county of over two million people and 30 cities in South Florida,” Rymer said in a Facebook post.

The City of Tamarac in Broward County also officially declared June 1 as Virgin Islands Day to honour the contributions Virgin Islands natives have made to develop the city.

The honour bestowed on Virgin Islanders was made possible by Morey Wright Jr — an elected representative of the City of Tamarac and has roots in the Virgin Islands.

“Thanks to the Honourable Morey Wright and Honourable Hazelle Rogers,” Rymer’s Facebook post read.

The official proclamation that was drafted to support the honour recognises thousands of Virgin Islanders who have settled and contributed to the development of the United States and the state of Florida.

It also said the City of Tamarac is home to Virgin Islanders who serve the community, the police force, own small businesses and is home to the family of a basketball star — D’Moi Hodge.

Our former premier goes on trial from July 18th. All the days of the trial should be declared as national holidays. We the people deserve this.
