One charged with drug possession following reports of public disorder
One man has been charged following a Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) operation this weekend in response to recent reports of public disorder.
The RVIPF arrested 28-year-old Romario Morgan of Chalwell Estate on Friday, August 23, during an operation aimed at addressing these reports. According to an RVIPF press release on August 26, Morgan was charged with Possession of a Controlled Drug and granted $5,000 police bail. He is scheduled to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on August 29, 2024.
Additionally, two adult males were detained by the RVIPF in the Purcell Estate area on the same day. Both individuals were arrested after attempting to evade police officers. They have since been processed and placed on conditional bail and are required to return to the Road Town Police Station on September 25.
These arrests resulted from an intelligence-led police operation involving stop-and-checks, targeted patrols, and search operations in various hotspots throughout the territory. This effort led to the recovery of controlled drugs, drug-dealing paraphernalia, and the confiscation of an illegal weapon.
The operation followed confirmed reports of gunfire in Purcell Estate in the early morning hours of Tuesday, August 20, and a separate incident of shots fired at a home in the Free Bottom area shortly after 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21. Both incidents followed a similar pattern, with no individuals found at the scene, but spent shell casings confirmed that shots had been fired.
The public is encouraged to provide the police with any information that may assist in solving these or other criminal activities.
