Opposition fighting me because they want to be Premier

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has hit back at the six Opposition members who recently walked out of the House of Assembly sitting after government members changed the order paper and pushed back the question-and-answer segment.

Speaking on Tola Radio last week, Premier Wheatley said the “walk-out” was a tactic that the power-hungry Opposition used because most of them hope to dethrone him so they can live their life-long dream of being Premier.

“Their goal is to win power – each one of them in the Opposition and I could name them out: Honourable Julian Fraser has dreams of being Premier, Honourable Ronnie Skelton dreams of being Premier, Honourable Myron Walwyn dreams of being Premier, Honourable Marlon Penn dreams of being Premier and Honourable Mitch, he wants to be Deputy Premier,” Premier Wheatley told the Morning Braff radio show in a rant that has since gone viral in local social media circles.

“So listen to me, I’m standing in the way of them achieving their life-long dream and they don’t care what they have to do to take me down,” Wheatley continued.

When the Opposition walked out of the October 31 sitting of the House of Assembly, they stated they were protesting the restructuring of the Order Paper because in their view, the government was shying away from questions about the state of affairs in the territory.

However Premier Wheatley said changing the Order Paper is nothing new in Virgin Islands politics and was done quite regularly under the NDP administration of which Ronnie Skelton, Myron Walwyn, Melvin Turnbull and Marlon Penn were part of.

“All of them were part of that government and each one of them — with their hyprocrital selves — voted to reorder the Order Paper. Andrew Fahie and Honourable Julian Fraser (the only Opposition members at that time) would protest and say the same thing about democracy and the importance of the questions,” Premier Wheatley added.

The Premier continued his rant, saying he isn’t shying away from the problems in the territory but will call out members of the Opposition when they are being unfair to his government.

Many who’ve heard the Premier’s interview have stated that his rant was unbecoming and vulgar. Still there are others who believe the Opposition did not have a major reason to walk out of the House of Assembly.

In the meantime, at the start of the legislative year, all elected leaders pledged to respect each other, be on their best behaviour in order to do what is best for the territory, which remains on the brink of major political, economic and social change.

All this petty talk and behaviour. Stop the nonesense! Everyday waking up to water that only running sometimes for 30 mins, an hour and a half or not at all! How people supposed to function in this place. My home just turn into cesspool ship with a muck of people at the helm of it! JAH!

Every home should have a cistern, drum or some type of container to hold water. Too much rain water falling. Why blame the government when house plans have to be passed with a cistern or means to access water. The government cannot supply water to the entire territory without issues!!!!!!!

      • @Water says:

There was a time when there were homes that were built way before these conditions were necessary to build homes. Those buildings were built by some of our parents or great grandparents – don’t play stupid with me. Besides, if you come on here and try to argue about a basic necessity such as water, then you confirm to me that “YOU KNOW NOTHING, JON SNOW!”

There are places in this world, just as small as we are, once they realize that an area does not have water, then the government makes sure they supply it – no questions asked! Never a day goes by where water is not at hand! Water?! You going argue on that? In this era, and we so advance in time? This place should never be without something as basic as that! And if you guys cannot fix a basic need like that, then JAH have mercy on this little country!

You didn’t then go by Frazer in sea cows bay? All the while trying to become the Premier? But now you want to act like the victim because they want to be Premier just like you did? Sthu!

Natalio was the outgoing Premier last time around and he won his seat so he had all right to negotiate the majority and once again be Premier. He is correct in that those guys are still upset because they didn’t form the Government. Most of the issues that Ronnie, Myron, Mitch and Marlon are ranting about are stuff that they didn’t address when they were in Government for 8 years. Mitch and Marlon were Ministers for 10 months recently, what did they achieve?

All those government members whose names are calling are or were not the premier. Natalio is the Premier. If the Ministers cannot get anything done, it is because of him. He is responsible for the Government’s purse. It is obvious he is not a leader. Better he had given Lorna the position, so she could make a bigger fr..g. At least she would have been doing some thing to please her pub buddies.

The nonsense has to stop. The men want to hold the Premier position and their wives want to hold the title of First Lady. When you want to hold First Lady or Second Lady position, you have to put in work and have a platform it is not about being your husband arm candy.

I am not for the members of the Opposition, but this boy/man needs to grow up and focus on doing the People ‘s work. One would think that he would have improved on his words and actions being given a second chance. I guess most voters regretting voting for the present Government and Opposition. What a darn disgrace.

Ok, so please tell him to stop robbing the taxpayers ATM to pay for the expensive first class tickets and 5 star hotels. He can sit in coach and stay in a $50.00 a night hotel. If he want to fly first class and stay in 5 star hotel, let him go in his own pockets and pay for such. A TRUE LEADER WOULD DO SUCH. He is not a true leader, he is a j**e.

All i care about is that you the Government give that promised increment that you said is already in the budget. What’s the hold up on this cash, things are getting hard for people out here. So please try sort out my promised increment you said you have done by the end of the third quarter of this year.
We are now soon about to close of the year yet to go through with another failed promise by you our government official.

On this note i think the post deputy governor and governor should be elected just like all other seat are elected

because to me the governor and deputy governor needs to go.

He the deputy held that position for too long we need someone fresh and who have the people at heart and not his inner circle

  34. Smh says:

I not no fan of VIP or this administration but to be fair the opposition don’t really come up with better solutions to anything. Most of the suggestions come from Frazer (bitter towards VIP and anyone who holds the position of Governor ever since…) and a lot of the time the suggestions are terrible like bringing back the HOA handout /favor system for assistance grants. Next suggestion is taking even more millions out of social security to fix infrastructure rather than going the bank, like that money not there for a reason. None of them better than the others, the only things all of them can agree and hold one head on is stuff like private insurance for themselves at taxpayer expense or exorbitant retirement packages for themselves at taxpayer expense or independence/self determination so that nobody cant tell them nothing about how poorly they handle public funds. I didn’t hear nobody object when Marlon had propose maybe they should look into raising their salaries either but yea that’s the stuff they all can agree on.

  35. Barry says:

Wowww! This is very immature to assume such thing about the opposition leaders, I mean you sound narcissistic.
