Opposition wanted to punish us
Health Minister Vincent Wheatley suggested that the government was being punished by opposition members when they staged a walkout from the House of Assembly last week in protest of a shift in the order paper.
The six elected members of the opposition walked out of the House of Assembly last week after the Dr Natalio Wheatley-led government pushed back the scheduled question-and-answer segment to the end of the sitting.
During that segment, opposition members would pose questions to the government. The answers generated from those questions are usually prepared by public officers.
But Wheatley, while speaking during the other business segment of the HOA, expressed disappointment at the opposition’s departure and said the issue of re-ordering the agenda was common and that there was nothing unusual about this occurrence.
“What have they really achieved? What have they proven? What have they given to the public to go away with, to say ‘well, that was a good thing that you did? Because you did that, now this can happen.’ I don’t know what it is that they have gained,” he argued.
The Health Minister said members of the public, including those who support the opposition, were equally disappointed and were also questioning their motives and asking why the walkout was really done.
“Because we [government] are only seven, it holds us hostage, so to speak. Maybe that was the intention, to try to punish us for a simple thing, re-ordering the order paper,” Wheatley suggested.
Wheatley, like Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley, insisted that the paper was re-ordered because public officers were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of the more than one hundred questions asked by the opposition.
Wheatley said staffers pleaded with him personally upon his return from a trip to London to have a few more hours to answer the questions.

Just answer the questions when the questions and answers time come is all; it’s your job. I agree that walking out solves nothing only the public loses when members walk out or not present. But y’all need to take the thing more serious as well. Answer the questions and stop bobbing and weaving. Pointing to who all used to do the same thing in the past is not justification please explain that to the Premier.

It was not a simple thing to change the order of the paper. Stop making it seem like it didn’t have consequences! You were putting the cart in front of the horse. Before going to the SAP, oppo wanted to ask questions first and should have been allowed to. Let us the public hear the BS answers to how you plan to spend the sap and what measures were being put in place first to address important matters.
What the opposition did was raise awareness of the nonsense you all in there trying to pull! That was the god that their walkout did. Now we the people can pay close attention to what going on. They made it clear that it would not be business as usual and that they aren’t rubber stamping what the government does. That’s the god in their demonstration.
When ppl March in protest and stop traffic then what good are they doing? They are bringing awareness to serious issues.
What the health minister is saying, is that the opposition knows our incompetence and wanted to hit the nail right on the head and punish us.

We want the PAC formed months ago to support good governance; yet because not one minister wants to give up their cushy salary, they have no representation on PAC. Whose fault is that? If debating the SAP was so important; more important than answering questions that the public have been asking for months since exertions; then what’s the point of having HOA meetings if it is ONLY to RUBBER STAMP Natalee’s whims and desires.
The ship is on the rocks and heavy seas are forecasted to batter the BVI more due to severe lack of LEADERSHIP that matters.

VG full of issues that needs to be address such as the giant craters in the road from the Valley to North Sound, water disruptions and the list goes on. You made so many promises on the debate about you will do this and that if you get re-elected all now we can’t see what you are doing.
