Total 42 candidates contesting general election

Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

At the end of Nomination Day yesterday, April 13, the total number of candidates contesting the upcoming April 24 general election has been tallied at 41 persons.

This is according to the Supervisor of Elections, Scherrie Griffin who indicated that there are a total of nine independent candidates and 32 candidates affiliated with a political organisation.

Each political organisation can field a maximum of 13 candidates but only the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) — led by Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley — produced a full slate to contest every seat in the upcoming election.

The Ronnie Skelton-led Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) and the Marlon Penn-led National Democratic Party (NDP) are both only fielding nine candidates.

  2. D4 says:

D4 also has an independent candidate. IMHO the only way to improve the representation that we get is to vote independent. These “parties” will just give more of the same.

Lazy journalism. What are the names of the various District Candidates?.

  5. Well done says:

I want to commend the the bvi news for its fairness. Penny for penny, dollar for dollar, word for word this online news is the best that we have. It is fair and unbiased as it should be. What vino and the wigged one seem not to understand is the reading public is looking for news and comments for and against. When you post news items and favorable comments only in favor of the VIP you do yourself a disservice. If only VIP voters read your views that is way less that 2/3 of the reading public. In case you didn’t realise VIP is in the minority. I would encourage bvi news the people’s news outlet to include some Caribbean news especially on slow days. You have a vast amount of Caribbean expats among your readership. Continue doing what you are doing. Giving fair and balance news to the tola readers and beyond. Thx bvi news. Anytime I post anything negative about the VIP it don’t see the light of day. So to the wigged one and to his wigettes
We are cutting the head of the snakes, wherever they are.

The three Wheatleys gone, bye bye, the Hon Sheep we sending you out to pasture, number six fine lady but served no useful purpose adios. Calvin what can I say it was good meeting you. DeCastro never impressive don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Flax a word of caution you jump ship in the nick of time.

  6. Mr Well done says:

Let me tell you straight. Sheep will represent you for a next four years. Sharie DeCastro will represent you for a next four years Carvin Malone will represent you for a next four years. The Premier will represent you for a next four years.

I agree in VG that Coy Levons is going to be your new representative for the next four years.

So Mr Well done go and see if you fine something else to get done. Start with fresh names if you really want to see who is going out the door, like Mitsy, she won’t even arrive. Shereen Out. Vincent out. Allen Wheatley, we watching that. Fraser out. Luce In. Kye fully in.

Alvera in. We watching Headley but maybe.

So all this strategy you all trying to see who can turn against these good people, it will not work. We already know what they did. We satisfied. Even though you say they bad. We not moving the bad to put in evil. This country cannot take anymore pressure and forming a coalition government.

    • not a good look says:

The VIP dragged the BVI onto its knees. Our international reputation is shot. Our civil service has been bribed inder their watch.
Do we really want a repeat from this fatally compromised VIP, who allowed this drug lord to rule over us?
The VIP should stand down and either dissolve, or spend the next four years in some serious soul-searching.

    • Please says:

Only 2 Wheatleys getting in. Shut your mouth

  7. Ize be wondering says:

Ize always wondered, is it only idiots who run for office or is it just idiots who vote for them?

  8. Breaking news says:

All this political campaign noise is just that: noise. The election will be postponed until the voting irregularities are sorted out by a Judge NOT the same HOA lunkheads that caused the mess in the 1st place.

    • @breaking news says:

Sounds like it. I can see the scenario, but only if the governor takes over. Stop the salaries of all the hoa members as they wouldn’t be working. With all the appeals that are likely to happen we the people will get what we always wanted without suspending the constitution. Brilliant stroke mr Governor.
