‘Pay up or lose it’, says Wheatley to delinquent landowners
Residents across the British Virgin Islands who were assigned Crown land but never made payments are at risk of losing the said properties.
A tough-talking Minister for Natural Resources Vincent Wheatley said these persons are being given a small window to make the payments.
“To speed up land distribution in the territory, I have instructed the Ministry to send out notices this week to all persons who were assigned property but never paid a dime for it,” he said while delivering remarks at the House of Assembly on Monday.
“Be on notice, you have six weeks to pay up or it will be taking it back and giving it to someone else who is more serious about moving this country forward,” he added.
Draft land committee criteria completed
Wheatley, in the meantime, said a draft of the mandate for a land advisory committee is now complete. He said once finalized, this mandate will be used for Anegada, Virgin Gorda, Salt Island and Tortola for distribution of land titles.
“There will be meetings with each community to get feedback before a final document is produced and a committee is set up,” he said.
The initiative is in keeping with a an election promise to residents by the VIP.

Great decision made Hon. Wheatley. Pay up or lose it!
i need land please call me
I hope y’all sort out Clementine’s Descendants first for SALT ISLAND! She did a lot for Salt Island while all these governments treated her daughter so poorly.
I hope it doesn’t go to none of those big names who already have it all when they nor their families did nada for SALT ISLAND.
All over claiming title name for more status. Tell them go SIDDUNG.
I hope the idea that was posted earlier last week or before, and that many agreed with, including uncle Edgar, son of Cornelius Lennard, a Salt Island born and raised, will prevail.
Please Hon. Ministe, do this right and righteous, because the inherent nature of man will surely cause much stife amongst blood relatives.
I need a lot of land in Salt island or Anegada for my retirement home in the BVI. I got my status 2 years ago have plenty money but no inland revenue seems like they don’t want to sell land to me.
Hmmmm,MAY be that’s why you have so much money.the entrance islands .
I’ve been saying that this should happen a long time ago. Pay or get out the way!!
This is great! Cause look at it this way, land given to you by the government is a gift which should be taken seriously. Nothing comes for free and the land that you hold a deed for, needs to be paid for regardless. There is a one time fee you pay when you are granted land and I can tell you, its not much at all. Way better then coming up with thousands upon thousands to purchase land here. Im just trying to say that yes the land was granted to you, but if you don’t feel you can or should pay the fees asked, let someone more responsible and grown up take over the land and do something on it na!
