Phase 1 of construction complete | VG medical centre to be handed over Friday
Phase one of the construction of the Iris O’Neal Medical Centre on Virgin Gorda is substantively complete.
The Ministry of Health gave that notice in a media release on Monday.
“This completion supports the improvement of community-based healthcare delivery as a significant component of the National Health Strategy,” the ministry said.
A handover ceremony of the facility is being held on Friday, February 22 to mark the progress made so far.
More than half-a-million dollars was donated late last year to outfit the Virgin Gorda-based medical facility with equipment.

What kind of ‘half a haircut’ type thing is this????
I personally been in this building last week, why are you using this old photo
This photo is old. please put up a recent photo.
No
Gosh, with the headlines stated, the impression was that a completed building was up and ready for operations!
I think that such pronouncements should have been made after the total completion of the building.
You know, buildings with bright colours, freshly painted, fanciful landscaping and a professionally paved parking lot would have made the reading of this article alot more easier!
Lets aim for such pronouncements the next time that we read of the Nurse Iris O’ Neals’ building!
This is a very old picture that I am sure was used on purpose to get such comments!! The building is ready!
Why are we handing over a building that is incomplete? Could it be because election is next week, and we need a media gimmick. Lord send help for these politicians.
They want to score political points but we are moving in One Direction. Forward.
The contractor is only responsible for building the building…. after completing the Building of the Building his constructional duties are completed and it would be turned over to government for the next Phase……. This is nothing new but as its political season, its clear that normal things such as this would confuse or be some sort of irritant for those who are looking for an issue.
Obviously the Chairman of the NDP and his team thinks that this can give the current representative a boost for the upcoming election. It is pure nonsense since the project was not his. Ronnie W Skelton was the one who started this project receiving kudos from the past representative Ralph T. O’Neal for getting it underway. They need to let the contractor complete his work so that the Health Services can outfit the building and get it up and running.
Where in this article mentions anything about ‘current government’ or the ‘NDP’? Stop looking for what is not there and you typed a whole 4 sentences
If so, very emblematic of the issues facing the BVI
man stop the nonsense NDP! You handing over a unfinished building. Thats like selling some on the batter of the cake and calling it a finished dessert. FOH! NDP
One of our successes! Might be unfurnished by we going make it the most interesting and pricey mini-clinic in the Western Hemisphere! Point blank true!
NDP has no shame when it comes to trying to fool voters. First paving roads at the last minute now a ceremony for an unfinished medical center whose brilliant idea was this?
Well my god!!!!
reading the comments tell me we wasting our money on education. Substantial completion means that the contractor has done his job and the owner of the building can safely take possession. It is for the owner to now furnish and outfit the building for occupancy.
No birdbrain we understand but when have you ever seen a dedication of a building or ceremony before the building has even been painted. Everybody see right through this shenanigan.
@ @Voter
P.Brain: Have you seen the Building? Do you know how much work was completed? Go take a look in and out, then come back and tell us your thoughts. All
the talk and nobody check out for them self.
The building is painted!! That picture is an old pic.
People please read and understand it says phase 1 the government never said it is complete.
Stage 2 will be the completion. The contractor has down his work the keys are now being turn over.
I really wonder where is our level of understanding
For centuries the VIP ruling over VG and no hospital now it took this government four-year years and now you have a structure.
Rome was not built in one day. Be thankful that a start was made.
If Dr Smith and NDP will be blamed for the planes and other missteps then so too they should be lauded when they do well. The point os VIP has been around 40 years and ruled VG and they couldnt even break ground on this. The NDP built it and should be praised accordingly. Skelton was the Minister who started it but it was done under the NDP. We cannot start nitpicking now. Good job NDP! YOU WOULD BE FOOLS TO FOOD THEM OUT!
This is NOT a current picture of the clinic in VG. Bvinews you know better, do better. This is even lower than V*** standards.
Speak truth and facts whenever necessary!
Promises made, promises kept! VIP promised the VG people for decades that they were going to build it and they didn’t. The NDP came in and promised to do it AND DID IT! NDP ALL THE WAY!
I LIVE IN THE 9TH DISTRICT AND OUR MINI HOSPITAL LOOK NOTHING LIKE THE PHOTO SEEN.I ALWAYS HEAR PEOPLE SAY SOME PEOPLE LIVING IN THIS DISTRICT IS UNGRATEFUL AND READING SOME OF THE COMMENTS ABOVE I CAN SEE WHY THEY SAY IT ALL THE TIME.WE LIVED UNDER A VIP GOVERNMENT FOR 40 PLUS YEARS LAND CLEARED EVERY 4 YEARS NOTHING BUILT IN 2015 THE NDP GOVERNMENT PROMISED AND DID IT. BE THANKFUL
That is news for ya.. deceiving. If you don’t have a current photo why even put an old photo? It is very discrediting to the people who made it happen. Workers and all.
So who cutting the ribbon for the handing over ceremony as it is complete
