A relatively large number of children, accompanied by their parents and other relatives, had reasons to be overjoyed yesterday during the annual Kiddies Fiesta, held this year at the E Walwyn Brewley Ball Park in Long Bush, Road Town.

There was face-painting, several giveaways, music, and a plethora of other recreational activities such as bounce-about during the 24th staging of the fiesta.

Geraldine Johnson, president of the Rotary Club of Road Town that hosted the event, said the fiesta was highly successful.

She added that it was particularly heartwarming to see children enjoying themselves at this time of the year when emancipation is being celebrated.

“It has been a very very successful day – lots of kids; lots of activities. We had a good turnout and the kids were excited with the giveaways.”

“This is the 24th year that we are doing this event in the BVI, and it is the only event during the Emancipation Festival that caters only to kids. The Emancipation Festival means a lot to the BVI; this is where we celebrate our heritage and our roots. So we figured that, if we are having an emancipation festival, as a club, in order to give back to the community, let’s do something for the kids. We give out free giveaways and back-to-school supplies to the kids – just to give back to the community,” Johnson further said.

She stated that, as it relates to ticket sales, there was also success.

The Rotary Club, added added, will participate in the August Monday Parade.

“We have a float in the parade; every year we come up. Rotary is celebrating 50 years in the BVI this year; so this means a lot to us as Rotarians. We will be coming up in the parade also.”
