PHOTO OF THE DAY: Over 5K visitors from two ships
From the vantage point of an area overlooking the Road Town capital, two cruise vessels can be seen docked at the cruise pier on Tortola.
Celebrity Edge and Marella Discovery of the Celebrity and Royal Caribbean cruise lines, respectively, arrived in the territory Wednesday morning, November 10.
According to the BVI Ports Authority’s (BVIPA) cruise schedule, the combined number of passengers that arrived from these two cruise calls is well in excess of 5,000.
Celebrity Edge is recorded to have carried 3,200 guests while Marella brought 2,074 guests.
Premier Andrew Fahie previously said such cruise activity is “good news for our taxi and tour operators, food vendors, souvenir and handicraft vendors, restaurants, businesses at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park, and for our economy as a whole”.

USELESS number ,over 5 thousand passengers on two ships. IMPORTANT number how many came ashore?
It’s a shame how yall keep evolving to discredit government or the BVI. Not long ago it was nobody would come here because of policies, mocking the number of people on the first cruise ship now it’s only 5,000 people but how many came ashore. All 2074 passengers on the Discovery are permitted free movement. The Edge are limited to bubble excursions. I’m sure the people would love to come out of the ship to visit the BVI. If you heard all 5000 people came ashore you would then say but they aint send no money and if you heard they spent money you would say they aint spend enough because youre a hater.
Hopefully they all stayed on the boats.
how many spen a dime? How many moms and pops stores made penny? And more…..
How many tested when they stepped foot on land. Free to roam but the rest need to be tested arriving by Ferry and Airplane. F*t Alberts rules only apply when he and the cronies make money.
We have to give the Govt Tourist Board, Pier Park and Ports lots of Credit. Right now we are taking the lead in the Caribbean interms of Cruise Tourism…Its going to get better, all these departments are working tirelessly…GREAT.,
I hear one ship fully vaccinated the other not
There are just under 2k passengers combined, NOT 5k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those are the max pax numbers, not the number they are currently carrying. Marella is carrying 500 pax and Celebrity is carrying 1,200.
Oh well. It was nice and quiet for a while. Great while it lasted.
Bad news for the health department in 14 days
The amount of sneezing in the city today; hope those were allergies
Only in F*t Alberts world does it make sense to let in 5,000 people to roam freely and have everyone else test upon entering the Territory. This lot needs to go soon. Sir Gary please hurry!!!
Why all the negative comments gezz
That number is simply not true. There were under 2000 passengers combined on both ships. Please get your facts straight.
Thats when they will have a true appreciation for the cruise industry..They need to stoo fighting and criticising it…It helps to keep them in a Job .
My God, the stupidity on this site.
I have not gotten 1 sale from a cruise ship since they started I’m glad they are coming back but some sales would be good I’ve been paying Vance them 2000.00 out of my pocket everyday month for rent it’s time for sales and it’s not just me most of the other stores are going through the same thing
Our Neighbors are out doing us getting more ship than us and you are not hearing the negativity and bad wishes about covid from people. What you are hearing is how can the small businesses and the little man benefit more. Thats the discussion we need to have and cut out the negativith and bad wished..
Cruise ships are no good for our economy and environment. A few family’s benefit but we get nothing. Better to get land and sailboat visitors who spend more and pollute less. That’s not negative. It’s positive and common sense.
