PHOTOS: Droves turn out for August Monday parade
The streets of the Road Town were transformed into a vibrant tapestry of colour and culture yesterday as revellers turned out in droves to participate in the the August Monday Parade — one of the hallmarks of the annual Emancipation Festival.
The event marked a triumphant return of the Parade’s Road March competition and the judging component which was absent from last year’s proceedings. A jubilant procession of 25 enthralling entries paraded along Waterfront Drive, captivating onlookers with an array of dazzling displays.
From majestic troupes to imaginative floats, spirited floupes, and sleek sporting cars, the parade showcased the artistic ingenuity and boundless enthusiasm of the participants. Vice Chairman of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee (VIFFC), Birchfield Lettsome, counted the increased turnout at this year’s event as a big improvement from last year and called the large gathering of supporters a vote of confidence for the Committee.
A notable highlight of this year’s Parade was the resurgence of the Road March competition, with judges carefully attuned to the captivating beats and melodies that infused the procession and kept revellers constantly in motion.
Apart from the chance to steal the spotlight, troupes also vied for the opportunity to claim up to $5,000 in coveted cash prizes across various categories. Traditional mocko jumbies, majorettes, and meticulously choreographed free-style-dancing troupes ignited the streets with their captivating routines.
Noteworthy among these were the illustrious ExtraVIganza, whose performance resonated to the rhythm of BugZbugs, Blind Earz, Big Shaw, Karnage, and the vivacious Treasures of the BVI, guided by the spirited notes of the renowned band VIBE and the charismatic energy of Pumpa.
Notable among the unique entries were the sleek sport cars, Rotary International’s interactive float, CCT’s special presentation, and the breathtaking 50-foot-long whale crafted by Beyond the Reef, captivating imaginations and adding an element of enchantment to the celebration.

Just wondering how some husband’s feel when their wife or parents see their daughter in a troupe dressing and shaking their a.. Infront of everyone (including other man) there. Well self respect is when you let your husband and your doctor alone see where the sun don’t shine. Some of those costumes are for strip club only.
Oh no, girl. Why?
Good job in sharing these photos
I wish I could understand alot of what I saw…gross!
Some of those costumes and photos are disgusting. It’s shameful to see what August Monday Parade come to. Just bare vaginas and a$$ on display, for who to see? Only attention they looking. Disgusting and shame on you BVINEWS for posting some of them.
Some of the ladies pictured look nothing like their social media photos.
Women and young girls jus degrading themselves
And they wonder why no ring on them
Finger….
Obesity appear a pride and virtue. The health care system will be highly challenged into the future. The individual, well choice is choice.
Degeneration and public degradation! That is what the celebration of a specific and sacred aspect of FREEDOM has been reduced to.
The obvious loss of once had personal values.
The erasure of a once strong meaningful cultural celebration.
The obvious retrograding of a once advancing culture and people…
Change. There should be a clear and discernable distinction between change and evolution. Change should not be negative. It is evolution not devolution. Then there are those who, for centuries, have fought wars to keep God, facts and truths out of schools, (just as today) minds and hearts.
Nudity and other is fine, but it has it place. The root cause for that celebration stems from a horrible place.
Celebrating freedom from that place is a must, but that celebration should be held with some perspective, reverence and sanctity.
I haven’t attended an August Monday Parade for a few years and this one took my breath away. I felt so ashamed as a woman seeing my sisters, friends and acquaintances dressed in little pieces of bubbles glued together in the street acting the fool. We have sunk real low as a community. I am sad that our young ladies in the name of having fun has let go of all their pride and self respect. They are drinking more shots than the men and now they are naked in the street. And to top it off, they only met to chose their naked customes because there was no routine that required them to stand up straight and dance. The plan was to shake your naked a** all over Town. The camera men are just as bad. All I can say is we have gone to the dogs. The next generation will be lost.
Mark 7:13 “Thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that.”
Deuteronomy 18:9
“When you enter the land which the Lord your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations.”
Romans 12:2
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
I don’t know what you talking bout but I know what you talking bout. Camera person was waaaay wrong for that gooot damn.
