A group of residents marched on the Governor’s Office today, as they continue to call for improved policing and crime fighting measures across the territory.

The march started this morning at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park in Road Town, and comes on the heels of a daring daylight robbery of a Road Town store, where armed robbers held workers at gunpoint while they stole items from the store. This is the second incident of this nature in less than a year.

Speaking on Tola Radio yesterday, businessman Ron Cline said oftentimes residents blame elected leaders for inactions on crime and violence. But he did say today’s march holds the Governor accountable as he is primarily responsible for security.

“The government officials are not the head of security. The Governor and Police Commissioner are responsible and they should have the security plan in place. In recent years, we have seen a lot of unsolved crime — robberies, murders. This march is to ask the Governor what is his plan for the security of residents, businesses, tourists,” Cline explained.

He said residents are also concerned about the lack of adequate police presence in their communities.

“What happened the other day (the daylight robbery) shouldn’t have happened. But those who committed the crime know that no police would be present. If we don’t act, the Governor and Commissioner of Police will think that residents are comfortable with what’s going on,” Cline stated.

Residents are invited to create their own placards for the march. Otherwise they are asked to simply support by marching to Governor’s Office as a cry for more action against crime and violence.

    A formidable and impressive demonstration!

It is as though the whole Territory spoke with a single voice!

This whole episode is supposed to distract attention from the Government’s failures to implement the CoI recommendations. It’s blindingly obvious.

People would be a lot better off using the confidential tip line.

The whole territory was only speaking with one voice because there was only one person on the march. There are 200 times as many people lining up for lunch at the RTW counter.

Report and convict. No jury will convict them if they caught. People probably know who they are.

Respect the courage to do something and say something..Thank you for that. These criminal activities cannot continue. They have to stop..

  11. Amazing says:

Elected representatives not representing the people
s interest so the people have to represent themselves. Why not march on the HOA and give your petition to the persons you elect to put in power to see about the affairs of the country> Then they would take your concerns to the Governor fast because they want to be re-elected. But no, give them a free pass to do nothing but spend our money willy-nilly, and blame others, then put their jobs at the governor’s feet.
Do you ever send a CEO to do the work of the supervisor you hired for your company?
But you want independence and can’t deal with your leaders to hold them accountable.

  13. Seems says:

like this ‘march’ supports the Governor’s requests for an extension of his powers within the BVI.

  14. REAL says:

The signage speaks to Road Town and tourist areas, that’s CRAP. We want a safe BVI for it’s citizens and residents FIRST. When we accomplish that, the tourists will benefit as well. It’s either the place is SAFE or it is not.

  15. arrest says:

should of arrested them for holding up traffic, 6 people does not make a march or protest just a bunch of idiots with nothing better to do

  16. It says a lot says:
