Scores of revellers gathered behind bands in the early hours of Monday, August 5, moving from Port Purcell to the Cyril B. Romney Pier Park for the Road Town leg of the annual Rise and Shine Tramp.

The intoxicating sounds of soca music blared through the streets, much to the delight of the crowd. Flags from countries such as Dominica, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, and of course, the BVI were represented.

The mass of people was sprayed with foam, water, flour, paint, and other assortments of powder as they fully indulged in the island’s culture.

This highly anticipated festivity brought men and women together, dancing rhythmically against each other.
The procession represented a cultural experience and bond forged under the festival’s theme, “Celebrate in Freedom and Live in Unity as the BVI Turns 70!”

The Virgin Islands celebrates 70 years of culture, as well as the 190th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the BVI. The August Monday Parade, a relatively large parade in the BVI, follows shortly after during the day.

Otherwise some just can’t. keep. things out their mouths.

Well, I think the women groups in BVI need to call on the Premier and government to Ban all g string or whatever it’s call that expose all those big buttons in the atmosphere.

It is diminishing the moral fiber of this community.where’s is gender department, and Luz please do something about this because it’s not part of culture to have our women, children expose themselves in this vulgar manner, jumping on each other, like goats and horses this animal behavior need to stop, it’s going down a road many will come to regret.

It’s disgraceful,to see the behavior that is call culture, our children are watching this behavior and bound to repeat.stop it now!

  13. Sad parents says:

Parents bring children to jovert where women have g strings on and are gyrating on men. Practically dry humping on the streets. That’s bad parenting, you have no one to watch your children then stay home

is this how africans from the jungle of africa that were brought to the americas on slave ships celebrate emancipation from slavery? do you people have any understanding of the horrors of slavery that have taken place all over the world? no wonder. africans do not understand anything about human rights. everyday around the world blacks and whites and asians and hispanics, free people around the world, are subjected to human rights violations and human rights abuse. stay away from eastern parkway in crown heights in brooklyn new york.
