Police announce arrests in CGB shooting, Aladdin robbery

Officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) arrested an undisclosed number of persons following an early morning raid yesterday, February 27.

The RVIPF said it made multiple arrests while conducting an extensive operation targeting suspects involved in the February 4 shooting in Cane Garden Bay and the February 9 robbery at the Aladdin Store on Flemming Street, Road Town.

The operation was part of the RVIPF’s ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure public safety with crime escalating in the territory.

Police said those apprehended are currently being held at the Road Town Police Station for interrogation. The RVIPF promised a thorough investigation as it looks to bring those responsible to justice.

This police raid follows an alarming incident at Aladdin Store, where four masked assailants, armed with high-powered weapons, conducted a broad daylight heist, escaping with undisclosed valuables.

Meanwhile, the recent shooting in Cane Garden Bay that left a bullet-riddled car in its wake also raised concerns about safety in tourist areas. The two incidents prompted increased calls for greater police visibility and action, including in Road Town where a small demonstration was held.

Governor Daniel Pruce previously met with the Aladdin robbery victims, expressing solidarity and confirming that security remains a top priority. Enhanced measures, including daily foot patrols and the addition of new officers to the RVIPF, were announced in the aftermath of the robber to help restore public confidence.

The RVIPF urged the community to come forward with any information related to these crimes, and encouraged persons with information, regardless of its significance, to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339. Alternatively, the RVIPF said information can be shared anonymously through Crimestoppers at 800-8477.
