Police arrest riders found with illegal bike engines

The police have arrested two riders who were found with bikes that had engines exceeding the legally permitted size.

The illegal bikes in question had engine sizes 1300cc and 750cc, respectively. They were also seized.

The BVI does not allow bike engine sizes above 125 cubic capacity.

“Riders in possession of the prohibited motorcycles were arrested. One was charged for driving without a driver’s license and driving when not covered by third party risk insurance and the other was discharged pending further investigation,” the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said in a media release Wednesday afternoon.

“Advice is being sought on further charges through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution,” the Force added.

Meanwhile, the riders with the big motorcycles were not the only bikers arrested. A third biker was nabbed for reportedly driving without a driver’s license and driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle.

All three seizures were made during an operation conducted by the RVIPF’s Road Policing Unit and its Armed Response Unit at different locations around Tortola on Monday.

“Commissioner of Police Mark Collins noted in May that operations targeting motorists who violate the Road Traffic laws would continue during the summer months. Those operations to pursue owners of illegal bikes and those that cause a noise nuisance are specifically planned to minimise the risks to riders, the public and officers,” the police stated.

Road in picture is not to BVI standards. It is much too smooth and well engineered.

It is good to know the new police commissioner is sticking to his promises. We need to rid the roads of all these bikes

    Well done RVIPF

How did the two over-sized motorcycles get into the territory? Perhaps we can report the owners to HM Customs? Customs seems to get great joy out of laying on heavy fines, at least this time they have cause.

And what else came in unseen in the same containers? Guns? Drugs? Who knows – but we need to find out. Put the owners in prison until they tell.

May I suggest that the police get a Tiktok login. They will see so much illegal activity being brazenly performed.

History will show that these bikers and our current Premier have a special frienddhip with promises extended. When he was elected with contributions of their promised votes they became super emboldened in anticipation of a promised drag racing strategy. That strip,to the chagr I n and consternation of the public at large, turned out to be any public road at any time of day and all night seven days weekly.
Thank you Commissioner. Be careful and watchful.
Confiscated bikes in the VI,impounded by the RVIPF, have a tendency to miraculously disappear overnight and never seen again.

When you go to Road Town police station there are more confiscated bikes being stored there than there are police officers.

Can the police set up a crushing event where we can watch them being destroyed? Many of these bikes have been there for several years (so long that some of them already got work-permit exemption and Belongership LOL). Destroy these death machines please.

That’s not fair. There are lots of officers but they are asleep in the back.

Also, who would want to go to a crushing event to watch police officers being destroyed? A bit harsh.
