Police operation yields cash, drugs, guns, arrests
As a result of the police operation on Tuesday, officers of the Major Crime Team charged Kelon Fortune, 31, a native of Trinidad and Tobago, residing in Hannah’s Estate with five counts of keeping a prohibited weapon, one count of keeping an unlicensed firearm, and one count of overstaying.
He is to appear before the Magistrate’s Court at the next available sitting.
In addition, Mickiel Robin, 24, and Yamilka George, 27, both of Belmont Estate were charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply as a result of Tuesday’s operation.
Police also charged Glenroy Christopher, 34 of Belmont Estate with unlawful possession of ammunition and unlawful possession of a controlled drug.
All three were granted bail for their later appearance in court.
The operation which targeted several premises on the western end of the island resulted in five persons being arrested, three on suspicion of the murder in the shooting death of Jaquan Thomas.
One of the five was discharged pending further investigations. Other charges may be pending.
The operation which included officers of the Major Crime Team, the Special Investigation Team, the Armed Response Team and the Intelligence Unit yielded a substantial number of firearms, along with cash and drugs.
This present investigation has brought to light premises used for illicit activities in the Territory that are hidden from general public view.
Persons are encouraged to report any unusual traffic to or from premises in the neighbourhood or suspicious activity to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.
Police continue to make its appeal for anyone with information in relation to the murder of Jacquan Thomas to provide that information to the Major Crime Team by calling 368-5682
