Police recover gun and drugs in weekend operations

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) reported a series of successful operations over the weekend of August 30, resulting in the recovery of illegal firearms and drugs across the territory.

According to an RVIPF press release issued on Monday, September 2, a search conducted on Friday, August 30, in Scatliffe Alley uncovered 357.1 grams of suspected marijuana, 27.2 grams of suspected cocaine, and 141.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine, all hidden in an old refrigerator.

On Saturday, August 31, another search led to the discovery of an extended empty firearm magazine in an old deep freezer outside a Capoon’s Bay establishment.

These operations were part of a broader, non-targeted search involving over 20 persons and vehicles. Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool emphasized that these efforts are aimed at ensuring public safety.

“These successful operations highlight our commitment to maintaining public safety and combating illegal activities in our community,” Vanterpool stated.

Meanwhile, the police also recovered an AK-47 rifle and 18 rounds of ammunition from a 14-year-old on Virgin Gorda.
He has since been granted bail and scheduled to appear at the Magistrate’s Court on September 3.

In August, the RVIPF announced a series of operations in response to recent public disorder reports, including confirmed gunfire incidents in Purcell Estate and Free Bottom. There are no new updates on these investigations at this time.

The RVIPF encourages the public to report any suspicious activity. Information can be directed to the Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-8477 (TIPS) or the RVIPF Intelligence Department at 284-368-9339. The RVIPF assures that all information provided will be kept confidential.

I want to say good job but this is a mess. Caribbean culture. No coke. But here we still have no medical or recreational avenue for persons to get weed. Considering the stuff is apparently in the same places we really are playing with fire by not legalizing personal cultivation, then as the commentors say when those coke heads start acting up… we have none to blame but procrastination. If the government cant handle it and they shouldnt, let people grow their own & stop the importation & criminal association. Politics, ok the governor said no, then they said they were negotiating, then nothing except they said they found a way through the health minister, still nothing. All of that weed is imported when it could be grown here on a limited basis like other countries who keep up with modern human rights.

Ak-47, 14 is the peak creation of the mess political games brewed. He skipped the pocket knife phase and probably had something half his size. amateur I wouldnt know but its a good thing no one younger got a hold of it secured in a towel. partner himself could have fell on it. what a fool.

There’s no logical reason to have a gun at that age when your best protection is the people around you.
