Police stations in East and West End to reopen!

West End Police Station

Following a string of burglaries and violent crimes across the territory, Police Commissioner Mark Collins has announced that the police stations in East End and West End communities will reopen as of Monday October 16.

There’s been an uptick in crime and violence since the start of 2023. And Commissioner Collins confirmed that there were as many as 11 burglaries between October 9 and 11.

Two of the businesses that were burglarized are East End’s Mangrove Bakery and the popular Road Town business Crandall’s.

The top cop said the police stations will be reopened to allay fears in the community. He explained that the stations were closed because he needed all response officers to be stationed in Road Town so they could be collectively briefed at the start of every shift. He said this helps them to be aware of hotspots and where policing will be focused each day.

“I maintain that is the best way to do business. However, I’m not stubborn enough to realize there are concerns within the community in relation to police officers not being visible in East End and West End,” Commissioner Collins stated. “Let me reiterate, every day and on every shift, officers on parade are posted in East End and West End, auxillary officers are at the East End police station and Cane Carden Bay Police Station five days a week. When they aren’t open, the police officers are in the community.”

He continued: “But I’ve listened to the concerns of the community and as of Monday, officers will be posted to the East End and West End on a 24 hour shift system to allow the visibility and we will see how that goes.”

The Commissioner revealed the burglaries that targeted homes this week were mostly attempts. But he said the ones where businesses were vandalized, the perpretrators were looking for cash.

He also confirmed that the police are making progress with the investigations and have seized vehicles, gained access to valuable CCT footage and forensic evidence which will help them apprehend the criminals.

Collins also urged residents to properly secure their premises, review CCT footage and take pictures of the valuables they have in their homes as this can assist with investigations if they are victims of theft.

I will never believe or trust anything these Governors and their Commissioner of Police say. They ignored the public and called us liars when we told them the out post police stations are closed most of the times. They said it is not true. Now the lady with the bakery in East End who got robbed said she called the East End police station and could not get anyone because the station was closed with no officer at the station. I guess they will say she is a liar also and it was not how she is claiming. These people cannot be trusted.

Big Narcos society yet the police stations are PT. Makes absolutely no sense. Who makes these decisions because that’s the silliest thing I’ve ever heard.

  5. 2023 says:

the territory have become lawless because police are hardly visible

police should resume stop and search. those with nothing to hide should have no fear

it is unreasonable to permit a few among us to put others in fear and mash up the tranquility of our country

  7. ME says:

The closing of the stations should never happen. The local Senior Officers sit down (like them stupid) and allow that English Officers who are Constables where they were come here and implement things that don’t work here. How in heavens name you going to close the most outer stations, make sense of that. Please put the Officers back to the stations.

  8. Accountant says:

This not the same person who said some months ago that the stations were not closed. How are they being reopened if they were always opened.
    Just saying.

  9. Backwards says:

step to waste manpower with police sitting around in
police station waiting for an old fashioned phone call from a crime victim.

Keep the stations closed. Report all crimes on the internet with photos of the damage, criminals, vehicles, etc. RBVIP force needs to provide public with all the internet contacts for crime reporting not just a few outdated phone numbers.

They will appear open but nothing will go on there. The officers there have no guns and will stay in hiding when something happens. Who could blame them? I once knocked on the door at the police station in East End and if someone was behind me with a knife he would have killed be right there.

All police do is lie I don’t know who telling them they are good people do you know what is a PIG that is a COP

  12. Sickening says:

This is so f**king sad! It shows the TOTAL DISCONNECT between cultures! They are taking what works in the UK, copy and paste in the BVI and are shocked because it doesn’t work. This is the same approach as the COI recommendations, just put things on paper and say DO IT NOW! Just because something may work in the UK, USA etc. does not mean it will work in BVI. I am willing to give the Commissioner a slight pass if in fact he means well but again, these one size fits all approaches will kill us. There’s always talk about BVI being against this and against that and we are corrupt. There are things that work and things that DO NOT WORK, time to be realistic. Some of the very COI recommendations need to be relooked and reconsidered as well especially as it relates to procurement and Government’s ability to boos the economy via minor works as was done in the past. Just because these people don’t understand how things work here makes it wrong. It also doesn’t help that we continue to elect set of yellow belly, spineless pu**ies in HOA who simply go Yes Sir Yes Sir.

  13. Auxillary Officers?? says:

He said, “auxillary officers are at the East End police station and Cane Carden Bay Police Station five days a week”.

Auxillary officers? Like traffic controllers and crossing guards?

So what about the RVIPF officers. The Force Officers. Where are they 5 days a week? Are they on strike?

  14. Not serious! says:

The governor and COP cannot be serious about the national security of this country. Would this level of incompetence and blatant disregard be acceptable in the UK? NO! Citizens and Ministers would call for their resignations immediately! If you cannot do the job, get packing! n
    NOW!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

  15. WEW says:

Better call first and wake them up.

  16. Dear Mr. COP says:

“He explained that the stations were closed because he needed all response officers to be stationed in Road Town so they could be collectively briefed at the start of every shift.”

SO AFTER THEY WERE BRIEFED THEY WENT HOME?

  17. That's the colonial way. says:

The governor and COP will never internally, intellectually or humanly take seriously the national security of this country.

Given their early life grounding and upbringing in a racist society, where the Black man is viewed as a sub-human specie, and where hatred for him is paramount, those men are neither in a human or sociological position mentally to subconsciously or consciously to do anything, willingly, for Black people.

He/they are in this territory to carry out the job and orders of the imperialist country and state. Acquiescing to the needs, wishes and human rights and desires are not, have not and will never be priority for them or the UK. That is historical fact.

They will be sent, they will come, collect their huge salary, live high and well, carry out their colonial duties, then go home wither and fade away and die, as the colonial status quo meanders on.

No investments in priority projects, education, medical, financial, infrastructure or other. Nothing but a prison will be offered as history so poignantly points out.

That’s the colonial way. Is that a relationship that a country, any country should be happy with? In the 21st century, it is thought not.

Most of the tomes when those statements are made they are totally wrong, misleading, arrogant and distasteful.

If there is something to be proved, then provide the evidence where said individual is doing as is expressed.

If not, keep ths stuff for your round table discussion, as it engenders no credible feedback from anyone in public.

And no, i am not him.

  21. Wake up!!! says:

This is all by design!!! I know most will dislike my comment but truth is truth. When Carvin Malone warned about these very things we laughed and cursed him, now look at us. The Commissioner admitted that he closed Police Stations and there is no outrage. If it was a local politician doing some bullshit like this they would be asked to resign. The BVI deserves everything its getting right now, too many f**king cowards. Do you think its a coincidence that they lock off all monies on the street, via Government then closed stations while the place go mad? The BVI has gotten worst since the COI, not better and its not a coincidence but rather by design. Stay blind and stupid if you want but its clear as day!

  22. Foolishness says:

Run to the police station if someone is following you home and guess what you coulda got robbed right in front the doors of the stations… because they were closed on weekends & weekdays after dark!

Cant blame all the police… blame the top cop & governor.

  23. @2023 says:

Legalize weed then stop n search.

Cant go arresting half the island now can we?

  24. Anonymous says:

No, all can, could or would be arrested except those who are of the same ilk and race as Collins and Rankin. Say that is not so.

  25. @Anonymous says:

True… rumor is the stop n searches ended when white people’s kids started getting arrested for weed.
