Ports Authority issues apology over closed ferry terminal gate
The BVI Ports Authority has issued an apology for the incident that led to several ferry passengers being confronted by a closed gate at the Road Town Ferry Terminal last week, forcing them to take alternate measures to get off the dock.
In a release issued by the BVIPA, it stated: “The incident was caused by a regrettable miscommunication, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and concern this may have caused to the affected passengers and our partners.”
According to the BVIPA, the incident occurred because of “unforeseen miscommunication between BVI Ports Authority and the ferry operator”. This meant that the gate in question was left unintentionally locked before its team could rectify the matter.
The Authority said the miscommunication was deeply regretted and assured persons that the significance of the incident as well as its impact on passenger safety and convenience was understood.
“[We] have taken steps to improve our communication channels with all relevant parties to prevent such incidents from happening in the future,” BVIPA said.
The Authority added that customer safety and satisfaction remain its top priorities and said it appreciated the public’s understanding and ongoing support. Persons with questions and concerns were encouraged to reach out to the BVIPA’s Marine Manager at 852-2507.
