Post-election seminar to be held in BVI

A post-election seminar for parliamentarians in the territory is expected to be conducted by the UK Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA UK) starting this week.

The event will run from from August 30 to September 1 and will be hosted by the House of Assembly (HOA), the parliamentary body in the territory.

The HOA said the seminar will serve as a unique platform for exchanging parliamentary experiences, dissecting the responsibilities of elected representatives, and delving into parliamentary procedures and oversight.

House Speaker Corine George Massicote described the seminar as an opportunity for the BVI’s parliamentarians to engage with peers from across the Commonwealth.

“This will allow us to collectively contribute to the betterment of governance and legislative practices within our territory. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to CPA UK for their steadfast commitment to strengthening our parliamentary institution,” Massicote commented.

The seminar is being billed as a continuation of CPA UK’s dedicated engagement with the territory and a component of the UK Overseas Territories Project (UKOTP) and Massicote said the project has consistently exemplified its commitment to cultivating good governance and bolstering oversight of public finances in the UK Overseas Territories.

At the heart of the seminar is a symphony of meaningful dialogues, uniting local parliamentarians with a delegation from across the Commonwealth. UK Member of Parliament (MP) Lillian Greenwood heads the delegation and is expected to guide discussions towards a deeper understanding of the parliamentary process. The delegation also includes Juan Watterson and Joann Corkish from the Isle of Man, as well as Akierra Missick, an MP from the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The collaborative exchange mirrors CPA UK’s cornerstone mission of nurturing strong parliamentary relationships across nations, territories, and legislatures.

Officials said the seminar stands as a profound testament to CPA UK’s enduring dedication to fostering parliamentary excellence, nurturing international collaboration, and propagating effective governance practices.

Active participation and exchange of ideas are also expected to make the voices of Virgin Islands’ parliamentarians louder and stronger, contributing to the overall strength of democracy in the region.

They aren’t repealing shyte! Waste ah time asking.

They intended, sais they would and are serving themselves a hefty raise and more and they did. They had no intentions of looking for the rest of society, the retirees especially that need those increments so badly.

Remember, they said on social media that they would be doing the same as their predecessors, so we must shut our mouths.

As soon as they got in, that is what they did. Self-enrichment through legislation. There are many ways to thief when you control the levers of power and the purse…

The people must take full responsibility for the governance we are living with…Many, many will die and leave their increments for the elected criminals to pocket for themselves….

Think the retirees should plan and execute a weekly demonstration to show their displeasure with their blatant neglect of them, while they erich themselves.

There was a time in the late 50’s 60’s and even 70’s when politicians actually stood for the people.

They were unapologetically caring and people oriented.

Today, that breed of men and women mentality has changed.

Having their self-interest and lots of money met are the new politician only interest…

We get what we vote for. Nothing!
