Electricity has returned on Jost Van Dyke.
A release from the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) said Sea Crest Inn was the first property on the island to be put back on the grid.
“The BVIEC team is currently working on 10 out of 15 feeders that are semi-operational. Three feeders are fully operational while the remaining two feeders, Little Dix Bay, and Long Bush – Ridge 1 – are not yet on the grid,” BVIEC said in the release this afternoon.
This development comes ahead of Foxy’s internationally-acclaimed Old Year’s Night Celebration which is to be held on the island next month.
Jost Van Dyke is the last of the four main islands in the territory to receive power following the hurricanes.
Up to recently, roughly 40 percent of the electricity infrastructure was said to be restored on Tortola while fifty percent was restored on Virgin Gorda. Some 90 percent was said to have been restored on Anegada.
The September hurricanes damaged some 12,000 poles, 400 miles of conductor cable, 2,200 pole-mounted transformers, and 3,500 streetlights across the British Virgin Islands.
