Premier hits back! Says critics unaware of existential crisis

Premier Wheatley

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has shot back at critics who suggested that he was needlessly travelling on public funds to attend a climate change conference when he should have been focused on budget discussions instead.

The Premier was accused of missing out on critical budget deliberations during the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) stage of the budget discussions. Opposition Leader Ronnie Skelton suggested there was no one left in the Premier’s absence to answer critical questions.

“Some persons would have questioned why I was leaving and going to COP at this particular time and I would say those persons are painfully unaware of what’s taking place as it pertains to what is really an existential threat,” Premier Wheatley said at a recent press conference.

“Obviously, of course, I would want to be here during Standing Finance [Committee], but if you have to leave, you have capable persons who you leave in your stead, who can represent you,” the Premier argued. “So, I know I had capable individuals who will be able to stand in for me and that’s the whole reason why we go through the process of having an acting Premier.”

Premier Wheatley said he has been meeting with his finance team and going through requests that were made during the SFC proceedings. “I’m going to go through each request meticulously. I’ll get the full report on what was discussed, what were some of the urgent issues that we have to be able to accommodate,” he stated.

Dr Wheatley described climate change as the single greatest threat to our survival and development and argued that the type of effort and mobilisation needed to combat the crisis should not be minimised or summarily dismissed.

“Humanity is in the fight of its life and the ones who are most vulnerable are the Small Island Developing States [SIDS], and the ones who are even more vulnerable among the Small Island Developing States would be the Overseas Territories because our existence has not been acknowledged,” the Premier said.

  3. Actually, with respect says:

What people are saying Hon Premier is that you appear woefully unaware or uncaring or reckless as to the existential threat to the Territory of your style of leadership. Your $250k concert contrasted with the state of the roads and infrastructure generally, the deficiencies in our health service including the lack of care for the mentally unwell roaming the streets, the lack of development, the state of our finances, the level and nature of crime focussing in particular on the killing and general plight of our young men, the state of our fire service, and the list could go on and on and on and on. At this rate the high water from global warming may come and find nothing. It’s a question of priority not only of the application of finances but also effort and the resources of your time and attention as well. Lead. Lead sensibly.

    Natalio, you delusional mu**et.

Of course the whole world is facing a climate crisis and of course our small island territory is facing a existential risk in this matter.

But little fellow, There are only 400 people who voted for you. You only represent a nation of about 30k people.

Nobody, and I repeat nobody, in the whole world outside of the BVI has any idea who you are.

Nobody, and I repeat nobody, in the whole world outside of the BVI cares about anything you have to say.

So you may as well have uploaded a video to youtube with your message. It would have reached the same amount of people as your messages have reached now. But it has cost nothing.

When you go to a conference like that, you’re not even a chihuahua among dobermans. You’re a tiny little ant among dinosaurs.

Just stop wasting your time and OUR money on these fancy trips and fix our blood territory.

300m+ budget, yet the place looks like a third world country. The worst it has ever looked.

I for one would love to see how much money BVI has spent this year sending out ministers and delegations all over the world.
Are Ministers and delegates flying first class and what are hotel costs.
Climate meeting? we are a minuscule speck in the ocean, all we have to do is follow best practices. but we cant do that either. minimal recycling plastic and Styrofoam containers everywhere. burning at dumpsites. the list goes on.

WRONG IS WRONG whether it is done openly or hidden and. God will not rubber stamp any foolishness.

You had no cause Dubai, you come back and you give a speech and it is expected that you must say something to justify your wastage of limited resources .

DO NOT THINK that God does not REJECT men. Did not Andrew experience teach you anthing at all.

It is GOD who lifts up and it is HE who puts down. and we can’t do wrong and think GOD up there giggling. HE is not, Your replacements are are being prepared and that is the truth. ….take that to the bank .

So no capable person could travel to Dubai? You rather be present in Dubai for a fake a** climate change summit than to be in the BVI as Minister of Finance to finalize the budget proceedings?

Existential threat ( a threat to our existence ) is arrant non sense. Its 10 degrees hotter in BVI than UK and both survive. Its another 10 degrees hotter in Dubai.

Not a single one of the disasters they have forecast over the last 50 years has come to pass. Every prediction of the rise in temperature is hugely exaggerated.

But the meetings, international jamborees, endless grants for endless meaningless studies and the whole Chicken Little fear fest rolls on.

And what can BVI do anyway?

Duck you are on point with your assessment. Climate change is a concern but not a threat and technology will resolve many of the issues . One reason that the Dems in the US are polling poorly in the Presidential race is that Biden when in full force with John Kerry at the front with focus on climate change , ignored fossil fuel and in fact demonized fossil fuels and gas prices shot up causing disruption in cost of living (fossils impacts everything) . The Dems started to understand but it may be too little to late. And remember one of the first thing trumpdid as president was…… lower gas prices .

These comments are hilarious, and I endorse every last one. Everything about the climate change narrative has been debunked time and time again. Big companies destroy our planet extracting its resources all in the name of greed. He’s talking about climate change and yet he drives a gas-guzzling vehicle, frequent flights sure do rack up c02 emissions what about that Mr. Climate Guru. If this is such a threat, we would have the burning at pockwood pond as one of the highest priority and all the GV vehicles replaced with electric. Then again that would be taxing on the GRID and cause more blackouts and produce even more C02 from all the electric vehicle charging. This whole climate thing does’nt make sense, the wealthy people can pollute with their mega yachts and 100 cars but the commoners have to bow down to the climate masters…..Just give them more control of our miserable underpaid lives.
