Premier: No link between my home contractor and Frenchman’s bridge

Premier Andrew Fahie

Premier Andrew Fahie has insisted that there is no impropriety involved regarding a personal home he is building and the reconstruction of the Frenchman’s Cay bridge; both of which reportedly involve the same contractor.

When the Premier appeared on his political party’s Let’s Talk radio programme this week, he attempted to dispel the insinuation made on another radio show earlier this week. He described the assertion as irresponsible and malicious.

“I want to make it abundantly clear because I want to deal with things straight up. I heard a radio show carelessly said the contractor that is building the Frenchmans Cay bridge for $300,000 is building the Premier’s home and they just left it out there,” Premier Fahie stated.

And while alluding to the upcoming general elections that are constitutionally due next year, Premier Fahie said this was the season where persons try to distort a person’s character and their reputation.

Premier Fahie stated that the bridge went through a tender process and said the contractor won the bidding process without any political interference.

“As for my home,” he continued, “I want the public to know that I have a contract with the bank and the contractor and how the drawdown is going.”

Not sitting quietly this election season

According to the Premier, he did not intend to sit back during this election cycle and let people have a field day with his reputation.

“I’m going to deal with these things straight up when they have to be dealt with,” he said. “These little things are said and then they become engraved in some persons’ minds and they believe it,” the Premier added.

“The bridge is only $300,000, so I don’t know how that is going to build a bridge and a house.”

The territory’s leader said he anticipated the issue coming to the fore and sought to be prepared for when the time arrived.

“The malicious people are out, and one thing I know is that they were coming with it anyway so I have all my receipts put aside waiting for those malicious people when they come and I can hand it over to anyone that needs to see it,” he stated.

He added: “I make sure that I clear it with the Register of Interests, you all know that I declared it in Cabinet even before, long before, because I know it would be a talk of the town is if the Premier cannot build a house.”

So if he didn’t become premier you’re saying he would’ve not owned a house?
We as a people never can see beyond our noses, we always have the negative things to say, when are we going to be respectful of each other and uplift each other whether in good or bad?

        AMEN

      • @Islander says:

Yes. He can own as many houses as he wants. His other half is a banker. That is exactly why he is getting the beating he is. You do not have to address every stone thrown at you when you are the biggest stone thrower in Town. This bully attitude of his that I will answer everything is the reason why things are so negative around here. The streets will talk. It is a small community. This is not news. Leave the bloggers alone. My two cents is they are just having fun. Why he had to answer this foolishness?

Somebody better tell Hon. Smith his own head is spreading the negativity around as he acts like he is on a school playground and the little children are picking on him.

      • Me says:

Exactly, all dogs and cats building , you all don’t exactly him to build too. Some politicians have 2 and three houses smh.

  8. Think about it says:

Take a look at all those who run with the VIP and the close associates of the party. Take a moment. Think of each of them name by name. Consider their behaviour during the last election cycle and you will see that getting in government was all about them benefiting. Nothing to do with Country. Politicians all of a sudden could build house. They driving government vehicles. The speaker of the house was driving a rental before election and now he driving a government vehicle bigger than a school bus. Cronies on boards. Cronies getting all the over priced contracts. Politicians getting big business from government ministries and not declaring their interest in the house. They put the greedy bill to pay themselves years after they are out of government. These people are not for country. They are for themselves.

Check he face man! Ole l**r! We the people of these beautiful virgin islands will NEVER believe you ANDREW!. You l** too much. You could have chosen another company to do the bridge. Some times to keep a clear record you have to lose friends. You should have not awarded the bridge contract to Yellow, knowing he was the one given the contract to do the West End Community Center. You MUST STOP IT!

    • @1st District says:

No, Man. Only his good friends must eat. Nobody living in the First who run blindly behind him come election time can build anything or renovate anything. When the NDP did it they were denying the “lil man” and helping out their rich friends.

So BS isn’t rich, and RF, PL and now Y***w? They must be loaded now because only them and another lucky few can work for this Government.
