Premier not sure if Fahie’s picture should remain in HOA

Disgraced former Premier Andrew Fahie (left) and incumbent Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley.

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has said he is not sure if a picture of the former Premier, Andrew Fahie, should stay up in the House of Assembly (HOA) after Fahie was found guilty of serious crimes. Fahie was convicted in Miami, Florida, for racketeering, drug smuggling, and money laundering last month.

Usually, pictures of all elected officials are displayed on the walls of the HOA. However, it is unclear if there are any rules about taking these pictures down.

“I’m not sure what the protocol is for that, but I know that they have all former Chief Ministers and Premiers on the wall,” Dr Wheatley mentioned.

He also said, “He was a former Premier so, based on the fact that he’s a former Premier, you know, it’s a reality that he was. That’s not going to change. That’s now history. It’s in the books.”

Dr Wheatley explained he would ask the Clerk of the House of Assembly to decide what to do, based on the rules.

He highlighted the importance of having clear policies, especially after learning from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) that actions shouldn’t be taken based on isolated events.

“It’s important to have policies in place. It’s not a situation that we’ve experienced before. So if there’s a need to establish a policy on it, you know, the clerk should bring it to the attention of the members, and then we can discuss it,” he stated.

Andrew Fahie, who was an elected official for more than 20 years, was removed from his position as Premier in 2022 after he was arrested for drug smuggling and money laundering. He was replaced by the current Premier.

There is no issue with continuing this conversation, but no action should be taken until all available appeals have been exhausted.

Supposed Fahie instead was convicted of aggravated rape of a child under the age of 10? Would u wait for the appeals to be exhausted in say….5 years before you move it down or would u just rather keep it up cause he is part of the history books?

Hang it on his reserved jail cell when he comes back. The message that he sent to the youth of this country alone, is atrocious.

Take it down for what. Let it stay there and remind the rest of them of what happens when you have no morals or ethics as an elected leader.

Fahie’s picture. He is a disgrace to the BVI and the entire Eastern Caribbean. He conspired with known criminal cartels to allow the BVI to be a transshipment point for illegal drugs into the USA against their laws. He should be h**g!

Only S!0w W@nde would ponder whether to remove a picture of his personal hero after that individual sold out the territory. Wait a minute doesn’t S!0w W@nde also sell out the territory when he gives his brother and family contracts with no clear value proposition for the people?

Isn’t it fascinating that we’ve not heard one word uttered about how the former Premier also broker the laws of the Virgin Islands? We all watched with somewhat baited breath as the legal machinations swirled around the former Premier and the Maynards. But the rest of the story is they all broker laws here. When Kadeem gets out (seems like he might be first), will he be prosecuted locally? Enquiring minds want to know?

More important than the embarrassment of Mr. Fahie’s photo hanging in a place of honour:
Are we now going to suffer paying Mr. Malfeasance-in-Office a pension for the duration of his incarceration? Much less the rest of his life? Heck, add Fahie to the list on the Greedy Bill.

Agree with you. Please start to figure out cutting off pension and salaries after encarceration. It’s not right after he broke the law.

As a citizen of the British Virgin Islands I am very embarrassed to see how this little Territory has become.

The Best Leaders we had in this Country were Honourable H. Lavity Stoutt, Willard Wheatley, Ralph T. O’Neal. Dr. Orlando Smith was OK too.

Things was much better in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. However, let me say that since the year Two Thousand and ten (2010) this Territory has taken a Dive down the Drain and since Hurricane Irma it has gone to the Dogs.

The whole Territory has become very very Corrupt and Unkempt. When I was growing up I never heard or seen the things that is happening in this little Country like today.

There are so many killings, Unsolved Murders, Drug Smugglings, Guns on the Street, Illegal Immigrants, Women walking the streets Half-Naked, Naked Women in our Festivals, Child Prostitution, Domestic Violence, Strip Clubs, Noise Pollution, Reckless Driving, Accidents Everyday, False Religions and so many Deaths and Funerals

Furthermore, Government Wasting Money, Health Problems, Water & Sewerage Problems, Bad Roads
and Infrastructure, Garbage and Derelict Items everywhere, No Agriculture and Food Security and the list goes on.

I remember when this Country was so clean, peaceful with plenty of Food. Everyone was loving, giving and caring but this does not exist anymore.

Everything today is money money money, politics, power, material gain and selfishness. The Country “Gone to the Dogs” and has become very Corrupt.
