Premier says he is presenting divine leadership

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley suggested that he had been called by God to lead the territory. He promised to lead the territory into an era of prosperity with the support he received after answering that call to lead the BVI.

The Premier made the comments as he brought his budget address to a close yesterday and thanked government members and members of the public service for their hard work in contributing to the budget.

“I am presenting the leadership that I believe God has called me to provide in these crucial times and I’m answering the call,” the Premier said as he wrapped up his speech.

He added: “I take my responsibility very seriously and with God as my guide and [with] a strong team by my side, and the prayers, support, and advice of the people of the Virgin Islands, we will re-instil hope and start a new era of prosperity.”

Meanwhile, the Premier commented that this is a critical time for leadership and urged that members of the opposition in the House of Assembly must come together with the government for the common good of lifting the territory to new heights of greatness.

“Yes, we have our disagreements and challenges, but these times are too crucial. The stakes are too high for us to be locked in partisan bickering,” the Premier said.

He urged elected officials to show that they are capable of a new brand of politics which places building the nation and the needs of the people first ahead of their own individual and partisan interests.

Opposition Leader Ronnie Skelton said he accepted the Premier’s offer of a proverbial olive branch but argued that the opposition has not seen many of the things they requested, including funding to support the research needed to make the opposition more effective.

The opposition recently walked out of a House sitting to protest unfair treatment by the government after accusing the administration of pushing their concerns on the back burner.

  8. Seriously though says:

As soon as someone suggests they’re installed by god they should be removed. You’re installed by the people. They are your clients. If you’re taking instructions from elsewhere, particularly a mythical being, you’re not fit to run the country

I’m always leary of any politician who talks about devine leadership. I don’t trust them as their myopic religious views cannot be inclusive of the entire population (in this case) they are suppose to represent. I will sleep with both eyes open with any politician who speaks this way.

I remember a guy who was always down on his knees, hands in the air, in tears and surrounded by “prayer warriors”. Saying that they were “praying for the country”. Look at the state of the BVI.

When you hear this kind of talk, look out for trouble.

    • @blame Lorna and Mark says:

She left her husband side and listened to her brother which is a breach and cannot be pleasing to the almighty. Power over everything else it would seem. We know lorna will wuk but she now needs to get to another corner. Luce need to get to another corner too because district 4 does not play guessing. Move now. Kye need to move too but guess he is comfortable although he is looking very incompetent under the current regime.

  21. Interesting says:

Divine leadership? Ok Natandrew. Folks look up divine leadership. So after he and his posse them paid people and some still waiting for payment is he boasting divine leadership? It is you who breached good governance and then you want the same people to comply support and respect you go sit down. This must be an episode from the twilight zone. We are in deep deep trouble.

  22. Redstorm says:

Bring out the sackcloth and ashes, and let’s pray. God is not to be messed with. Mathew 7:7 ask and it shall Ben given unto you, seek and ye shall find , knock and it shall be open. If you are not willing to go the extra mile, to fix this problem, don’t call God into it, because there is alway and exchange to gain with.

There are smaller countries than Tola that the people are rich in attitude,in financial wealth, in spiritual wealth and in contentment, they are given siesta during the day, closing every shop, there health are in top shape, they government support the young to build houses with 50% financial supports and more in education.

This country once was a living eco system,it’s now dying. So, prepare to talk with God through prayer and fasting for the whole island if you want quick results. Drastic measures must be put in place to show God you are committed to change. As to that sit down and think again. God is not to be mock.

Many are called But few are chosen. It is true that its God who sets up But He also takes down. Don’t confuse the two. God is NOT the Author of confusion.

  30. El Demonio Negro says:

That statement alone is why anybody but HIM should leaf this territory. Can’t do any worst. We the leader of your country start to sound like Jim Jones an I’m not talking bout Dip Set. We have a problem.

  31. Delusional says:

This man was called by THE PEOPLE, not God. God did not cast a vote.
Wheatley was called by the people to lead us through difficult times on his promises of strong transparent leadership and fiscal responsibility. Now he doesn’t want to fulfill those promises, so calls himself annointed by God.

It’s like if you buy takeout tofu curry then get home to find it’s goat curry. When you call the restaurant, can they say “oh, we made a mistake, but it’s annointed by God. God wants you to stop being vegan.”?
No they can’t because that is Blasphemy.
