Premier slams Walwyn over no-confidence ‘flop’, political ambition
Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley lambasted Opposition Leader Myron Walwyn’s failed no-confidence motion, suggesting it was driven more by personal ambition than the good of the territory.
Dr Wheatley described the much-anticipated motion as “a flop” that “fell on its face” after being defeated 7-2. He noted that not a single opposition member besides Walwyn spoke in its support.
“Honourable Walwyn was on his soapbox for about 3.5 hours — a one-man show,” Dr Wheatley said.
He argued the motion’s primary purpose was to advance “one man” in his political career. While calling Walwyn articulate and well-presented, the Premier said he had “always seemed in a rush to be in charge” and appeared willing to “form any alliance possible” to achieve his goals.
Dr Wheatley recounted Walwyn’s political trajectory — from being part of the Virgin Islands Party and later the National Democratic Party, to his current role — and pointed to rifts in every political group he joined. “If every organisation you are part of breaks apart, and you’re not able to keep a cohesive group together, how do you intend to lead a nation?” he asked.
The Premier linked Walwyn’s approach to past instances of party division, leadership challenges, and shifting alliances, warning that the same could happen with his current political grouping.
Premier Wheatley also pushed back against criticisms of the government’s record, presenting statistics showing higher average revenues from financial services between 2019 and 2024 compared to earlier years, and noting that three of the top five years for visitor arrivals occurred under the current administration.
He criticised the timing of the no-confidence motion during the Emancipation Festival season, which he said should be “a season of unity” rather than partisan politics.
The Premier also urged the territory to focus on truth over political spin, emphasising that the Virgin Islands’ challenges require collective solutions rather than “strategies for power” that deepen divisions.

How can you show statistics but not public accounts.
Can we have some accounts please. Can we also see reports like the one about the airport.
Can we also see your plans for a referendum so you can be set straight on the peoples thoughts on self determination. You can then stop spreading misinformation with the UN.
This Premier is not worthy of the title.
THE PEOPLE OF THE VI UNEQUIVOCALLY HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN YOU AND YOUR GOVERNMENT.
A hit dog hollers… ALWAYS have to react to EVERYTHING!!!
Hon. Walwyn’s presentation during the debate was very strong. He outlined the issues and provided solutions. The BVI is the worse I have seen it in my lifetime. What I find striking is the lack of a response by the government on the issues. This shows me that they could not dispute the points and they had no response to it.
Hon. Walwyn you did very well. We were able to see who is for the country and who is for party and self.
Myron was impressive in his debate. To me he slammed the whole government and he was right with what he was saying. Up to now I can’t hear them disagree with what he said.
We can back and forth all day about who more power hungry and who is who grandfather and who belong to what political party and if they get along or not but from my observation walwyn seems more intelligent in general and I think would or at least be capable of being a much better Premier than the one we got now. To me the premier gives off vibes like somebody who didn’t even think or expect that they would even end up in that position so they just enjoying it to the fullest but ultimately they don’t know what to do.
MATHER FAKED AN EMERGENCY, RONNIE FROZ and MARLON WENT TO HIDE
Broke up the NDP family
Yes, Myron broke up the NDP because he had no call winning the party elections and cause Ronnie to leave to form PVIM because he lost. You all really special in this place mehson
Repeating a lie doesn’t make it the truth. It just makes Jesus put more strokes in your lie column. Straight hell you going.
WALLY , IS SAYING )> WHEN SKELIE WAS IN CHARGE AND INTRODUCED IT WHERE WERE ALL THESE HYPOCRITES MOUTHS ? LET ME JUST SIT BACK AND ALLOW THEM TO EXPOSE THEMSELVES , SO THE PEOPLE CAN SEE AND HEAR THEM LIVE AND DIRECT
The vote of no confidence set out in my opinion to do what it was supposed to do. There was no way the opposition could win but it provided a chance for them to put their case forward to the people about this government. This was done very effectively by Hon. Walwyn. Hon. Skelton who brought the almost identical motion previously was the only other member of the opposition present at the time and he chose to not debate and to abstain. Ronnie’s actions convinced me more that he is not for people and country. He is also immature for an elder. He could not put his emotions aside and defend the very same document that he brought before to the House.
The Premier’s response to Hon. Walwyn’s no-confidence motion was not a rebuttal of ideas, it was a dismissal of the man. That’s not governance. That’s theatre. Hon. Walwyn spent 3.5 hours laying out concerns that deserve serious engagement. Instead, the Premier chose to reduce the moment to a personality critique, sidestepping the issues in favour of political storytelling.
This territory deserves better. We deserve:
1. A point-by-point response to the motion’s substance
2. Transparent data contextualized, not cherry-picked
3. A commitment to unity that begins with respectful debate
If the Emancipation Festival is truly a season of unity, then let it be marked by leadership that listens, not leadership that lectures. Let’s move past the soapbox and into the forum where ideas are tested, not personalities targeted.
Up to this moment there has been no intelligent response to major issues raised by Hon. Walwyn. I was looking forward to a high level of debate from the government on the pertinent issues but of course they came up wanting and resorted to political attacks and ignored the issues.
Premier Wheatley said Hon. Walwyn had a one man show. That one man put some blows on the government that up to now none of the 8 of them have been able to mount a sensible response. We are not interested in political rhetoric. We want a proper response. Hon. Premier you had the perfect time to explain the bank of Asia 5 Million dollar deposit but you did not say a word.
The reality is while Myron is correct with all he said, he does not have a team that could lead this Territory and will not find suitable candidates. Until he can get a team of qualified candidates who are willing to follow him as he leads, all the talking will be for naught. I really think he miscalculated his political moves because BVI politics is no joke. Mitch and Mather have nothing to lose by jumping off the ship if it’s not going where they want it to. Who else is with Myron? Who is really supporting the idea of the Alliance? Who is the team? Who are the candidates? What do they stand for? Why should people vote for them? Simply laying out the ills of the government is not enough. The people know what the issues are. How can we fix them? An Alliance of 3 is not the answer. Show us your team, show us your plan, help us to be confident that you are the answer. As of right now the Alliance experiment seems to have feel flat on its face and will never recover. I’m over 50yrs old and been around politics for 30yrs and in my opinion Myron seems to have outsmarted himself and realizing the hard way the eloquence is not the only attribute to being a solid political leader.
I rather see one competent person at the helm even if they at odds with their own team sometimes than a whole team of lost sheep that don’t know what they doing but they get along and sing kumbayah while the country go to s**t and the people perish.
I HAD TO CHECECK TO SEE IF I WAS READING IT ON THE YELLO SITE , BECAUSE ONLY THE YELLO SITE. WE DIES SEE WORDS LIKE ” LAMBASTED ” ” SLAMS ” OR ” BLASTED ” WHEN IT COMES TO WALWYN THAT IS STRANGE , LOOKS LIKE BLONDIE GOT SOMEBODY WORKING THERE NOW / THE MESSSGE YMTHAT WALWYN WAS DELIVERED BUT THE WRITER DIDN’T FOCUS ON IF WAS RELEVANT OR NOT BUT CHOOSE TO DRAMATIZE THOSE WHO AVOIDED THE MESSSGE THAT SHOULD OF BEEN ADRESSED BECAUSE IT CONCERNS THE COUNTRY AND HOW THE COUNTRY IS BEING RUN / AND BY WHOM ~ SO WHERE IS THE SO CALLED TRANSPARENCY . THIS IS PURE THEATRICS
Wheatley knows the road to success is bumpy with hills and valleys. He ran for power begor and lost. His parents also ran and lost. He is gheir dream come true now.
Walwyn’s journey is also with hills and valleys. Indeed, his current alliance may be shaky, thst does not mean that he is, and will not succeed as long as he stays grounded and focused. The “no confidence motion” against current government was well executed. It’s failure has nothing to do with Walwyn, but everything to do with the hypocrites on both sides of the isle.
You are talking nonsense. Being a na**y person undercover and then acting like a victim in plain sight can only last so long. Walwyn had it coming a long time now. People are only now realizing how this individual is.
Where was Mitch and Mather, the second and third Alliance members when it was time to debate this Motion? A group of Opposition members sat down and discussed rejoining their parties and making it one and this Alliance was formed because three persons did not want PVIM and NDP to join together. So the Alliance members should not act finicky now. They either together or they are not. One had an emergency and the other despite the fact that HOA is broadcasted on ZBVI walked in too late to debate. Well the proof of the pudding is in the eating, isn’t it?
There was a hypocrite or 2 during the last vote of No confidence too but that’s life.
You are right.
And right now, VIP got you all eating $#!+ pudding and you all seem to enjoy licking the spoon.
I agree his alliance colleagues conspire for power entitlement with vip and John cline, but please don’t make it look as though is Myron personal ambition, your Trinidad and csc adviser told you if you say that it will make the salient concerns of the people look trivial, especially that $5 million USD, and Vybz Kartel can bounce back again in the BVI for quarter million USD, and the senior citizens get nothing. So the party and traveling continues.
Pure Niggemannce is controlling these Virgin Islands and if it’s Not Rooted out there will be No change. Niggermance from day one in 2019 and the Beat goes on. Niggermance Rules the BVI…Just Listen keenly during the HOA sessions and try to ascertain when Niggermance kicks in. The Jewelry speaks for itself Dear Souls…..
