Premier Wheatley in Bahamas at regional heads of gov’t meeting

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley is currently representing the Virgin Islands in The Bahamas for the first ‘Regional Meeting of the Heads of Government of the Caribbean’ to discuss climate change in the Caribbean.

The inaugural event is being held today, August 16 and Wednesday, August 17, in preparation for COP 27, to devise a regional position on climate mitigation.

The COP 27 summit will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from November 6 to 20, 2022. The summit brings various parties together to fulfil their pledges and commitments towards delivering the objectives of the Paris Agreement – to limit global warming to well below two degrees Celsius, preferably to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Premier Wheatley will join other government heads from Antigua & Barbuda, Anguilla, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, and Turks & Caicos.

After the completion of the regional meeting, the Premier will then fly to Trinidad & Tobago and attend the Agri-Investment Forum Expo II from August 19 to 21.

The initiative is a platform established to stimulate conversations among key stakeholders and to revolutionise the agricultural sector in Trinidad & Tobago and across the CARICOM Member States.

In the meantime, Deputy Premier Kye Rymer has been appointed to act as Premier and Minister of Finance from August 15 to 21. Dr Wheatley is expected to return to the territory on August 22.

  3. opportunity says:

as well as talking about or even developing energy and food security yeah on a national level, we should also be looking to increase efficiency of intra-Caribbean trade. We can reduce reliance on the US and elsewhere while also promoting and making commercially viable, the fresh, unprocessed and unpoisoned produce that we can grow here.

shame we only have a crooked power 52 deal to talk about on renewable energy.

  5. Discuss regional transportation says:

Premier it is important that you represent us abroad at these meetings, but we also need you to talk to our Caribbean neighbours about how we solve the regional transportation problem that is making travel to and from BVI difficult.

Funny how they like to travel up and down to all kind of conferences and meetings and come back here to still turn around and do utter nonsense or don’t do anything at at all but verbally commit to things they have no intention of doing.

  9. No respect says:

Since this saga in April , as the deputy leader of VIP. This man has not publicly apologized on behalf of the VIP to those who supported him and collectively to the nation . No press release to deal with that . This is the basic lack of leadership skills .
If this is basic common courtesy and nobody in his party insist that the remaining members of the party do so collectively and they are our leaders it is better UK take over .

No clue of basic accountability to the territory . However every man fighting for power and control. Look how the only mouth piece for the public has been given a blow Tola Radio . Discord and don’t know how to do things in context and climate ? Yet we boast about wanting Self governance . Sad situation

  10. Prejudice says:

They bash their Caribbean brothers and sisters so badly that some of them are ashamed to find trade routes with the down island -islands . A rude awakening is coming to the BVI

  11. Hmm says:
