Premier: Why are we looking outside for saviours?

The BVI should not be looking to outside saviours for its deliverance as it seeks to rise above some of the challenges it faces, Premier Andrew Fahie has argued.

The Premier made that statement against the backdrop of the government being previously told that the former governor would lead the territory’s COVID pandemic response instead of elected officials.

“When the pandemic hit and the then governor insisted that he has control of this through disaster management with the National Emergency Operations Centre we pointed to the law that put the Minister of Health in charge and created the Health Emergency Operations Centre,” Premier Fahie said during a recent House of Assembly sitting.

“Why are we looking outside for people to become our saviours?” Premier Fahie asked.

The Premier argued that the BVI should use its own people and suggested that locals have the requisite degrees to do the job.

“Let’s use our people. Whenever one doesn’t work out, put in a next one,” he stated.

He continued: “Sometimes we need a little outside help to give us a little more experience but it should not be permanent. It’s just to help them along the way and then bring them back in.”

Premier Fahie further argued that the BVI has used its scholarship programme to fund overseas tertiary studies for hundreds of locals over the years. He, therefore, said the territory should be benefitting from this.

“If that is not what we are sending our children to school to do, what we sending them to do?” Premier Fahie questioned.

He expressed confidence that BVIslanders can manage their own affairs once the appropriate legislation and correct parameters have been put in place ‘to make sure that they operate with integrity’.

According to the Premier, every country has been under fire recently and has experienced problems, particularly with relation to their COVID-19 response.

Andrew Fahie I can’t believe you are asking this question, why are we looking outside for people to become our saviors? When you have been all over the place looking for help to stop the UK from taking us over. You are the worse government the BVI has ever had and the sooner we get rid of you will be the best for the British Virgin Islands. Right now we need help from outside to stop you from killing the tourist industry, if we have to complete this season with you in power the BVI is going to be in a lot of trouble. I think you should come to the conclusion that you are in over your head for this job as Premier and do us all a big favor and resign.

Oh but they are very competent with making farting noises. That whooshing sound is the BVI tourism and charter economy going away.

You only have to look over at the USVI and see all of the boats over there. We’ve blocked them and more importantly, their guests, from coming to the BVI.

        So we lose.

Because it is our own people who killing us! We tired of being victimized and politically punished by our so called own people. So we rather get help from outsiders now than to continye to feel the pain of the whip from our own locals.

How about concentrating on all the unfinished projects first: Schools, Roads, Hospitals and Clinics, Ferry terminals, Care for the elderly. the list is endless, when that is mastered then go on to next step.

I’ll tell you why. Imagine in this day and age the highest qualification you can get in the BVI is an Associates degree. So BVILanders have to go abroad to get qualified and most times when they’re done they usually stay out there and get experience for a while. By the time they’re ready to come home is ah set ah who yuh for to get a job and who is your political affiliation. The problems in the BVI are within and as soon as we stop blaming outsiders we will go somewhere. As a matter of fact the outsiders keep some of us gainfully employed and keep our businesses afloat and our apartments occupied.

The BVI needs leaders that can think and innovate not talk and blame.

    • Lord that man talk too much for me. says:

He gives me a headache. I don’t even waste my time anymore trying to defend him when he does anything that appears right which has been rare. Waste of my my time.

Whenever he opens his mouth, he speaks of himself. He tells on himself every time. Always projecting. Sad…sad…sad person for a leader.

Please…please stop talking. You are talking too much.

Then again, please continue talking so that people can get a good look at who they elected to run the country and do better next time.

  10. Oh karma! says:

You and your cronies pushed the narrative that it was the governor that saved us after the hurricanes and that the local government did nothing. You had CSC on the radio spouting this and throughout your dishonest election campaign you kept saying it. You knew it was not true but it served your political agenda. Now the people looking to the governors to help you are now saying that they are not our saviours. They were our saviours after the hurricane but not during covid. You see how all your mischief is coming back to haunt you one by one. The Lord will be serving up some good lessons for you Sir. Just wait.

People used to put their hand in the cookie jar but you put your hand , wrist and elbows . That is why the COI expose the incompetence of the country . You did not know how to juggle it . No government is squeaky clean but you started too fast and drastic , that’s your downfall

I have been shuttling between the USVI and the BVI for 20 years. While the USVI has improved dramatically, the BVI is falling backwards. 20 years ago in the USVI Governor Turnbull said the same *BS* that Fahie says now. Always screaming that “the white man is keeping you down” to distract from their own incompetence and corruption. Well, the folks in the USVI got tired of that sh*t. And it helped that the US government put some of Turnbull’s cronies in jail. Now, anyone with competence is welcome to come. So USVI has a thriving economy, with high speed internet available all over the island and a highly rated 4-year university. Wake up, BVI!

  18. Rack says:

Didn’t the Government go to China looking for money – spending money on first class tickets and hotels? Maybe the Premier is right – all the businesses should start paying corporation tax including all the local ones and the illegal ones? The trucking companies should pay for all the potholes cause by their heavy trucks. And all those businesses that want the cruise ships should pay tax on their earnings as well. And maybe all the millionaires should pay tax as well.
