Prison officer injured
A prison officer has been injured during the latest disturbance, which unfolded at Her Majesty’s Prison this morning, June 1.
Details of the attack are sketchy.
But highly placed sources said the prison officer was taken to Peebles Hospital after suffering a head injury.
The inmate, who is said to be responsible for the attack, is now at Road Town Police Station.
When contacted, Information Officer at the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Diane Drayton told BVI News Online: “Police are investigating an incident at HM Prison. Details of that incident you will have to get from the Superintendent of Prisons.”
When our journalist contacted Her Majesty’s Prison, a representative of the correctional facility said Superintendent of Prisons David Foot is off island.
Asked if anyone else is available to assist with information, the female prison representative who answered the phone said: “We ain’t talking to nobody ’bout that incident.” The phone line then went dead.
