Public rallies to save Dameon Percival’s home

Amid reports that the home belonging to Dameon Percival is set to be auctioned, members of the public have started donating funds to help the outspoken talk show host keep the property.

According to reports, roughly $30,000 needs to be raised this week to prevent the National Bank from putting up the property for sale.

Percival is a co-host of the Morning Braff radio show on Tola radio and is known for being an unapologetic critic of government officials. News that his property is set to be sold had been making the rounds on local social media circles but it was highlighted by Cindy Rosan who joined the Morning Braff radio show earlier this week.

“Dameon’s house is up for sale and since last week when that hit the papers and someone sent it to me, I’ve been disturbed and I’ve been thinking about how he can be helped,” Rosan stated. “Just like me, Dameon has put himself on the line for this territory and he has used his voice for this territory.”

Rosan said many people have reached out to ask her how they can assist Percival with funds to keep his house — a major wealth-building asset for Virgin Islanders. She also added that Percival’s income earning capabilities have been affected by public figures who have victimized him.

“I’m not asking for the government to bail out Dameon. We all know that the government — and I will call names — who could have assisted and who also brought him to this point,” said Rosan you proceeded to name past and present government legislators who she alleges had a strong hand in Percival’s home facing foreclosure.

She further accused one former high-ranking government official — a known controversial figure — of using his influence to ensure Percival does not get a job in government.

“So I’m not looking for the government to bail out Dameon, I’m looking for us as a community to assist,” Rosan said.

As the show continued, residents called in and pledged funds to assist the talk show host. Junior Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries Carl Dawson, who was a guest on the show, also pledged to contribute to the cause.

“As a community, we can no longer sit back and watch those that we hire to work in our best interest turn our lives upside down. It’s time to fight back. It’s time to rally behind our people as a community. Fight back. Help Dameon save his home. Not only for him but his children. Thirty thousand dollars will save Dameon’s house. That is 300 persons giving $100,” Rosan said in a Facebook post.

Percival’s supporters further advised that persons may also go to the National Bank and to make contributory payments.

I agree he should find a job in the private sector or find something else BUT that doesn’t mean you can help a fellow person and give him $10.

As usual, blame the government. There are private entities where he can seek out employment or he can start his own business. But to come here to ask for help for him while painting him as a victim is counterproductive. He made choices as well that contributed to his financial situation. To make this issue political shows how ridiculous we have become here. There are many others who are in the same predicament and they have been working tirelessly to address it. They have not blamed the government but have responded by working to raise the money to address their issues. He should prioritize his finances before he comes on this platform to be some sort of martyr. That’s common sense.

  29. What? says:

So let me get this straight, he loses his big Government job and because he is unable to get another big Government job, he can’t pay his bills and we have to help him? If I’m not mistaken this man has some kind of qualifications and has worked in mid-upper level management private and public sectors. Why can’t he get a job? If you need $30K to avoid losing your home it means you have been behind quite a while so why did it come to this? These guys are setting a dangerous precedence with this issue and should be careful. I’m sorry for him but I don’t see why people that get up every day, go to work, ply their trade to make ends meet, are being asked to bail out someone who is on the radio shouting all day instead of seeking employment to handle his responsibilities.

So let’s say we give him $30K now, then what? Nowhere in this conversation have I heard the young man seeking employment at all so what bulls**t is this? Cindy and others are just s**k in their f**king heads and completely oblivious to how the real world works!

Dameon is indeed being victimized. Even the private sector is refusing to hire him because they need unwarranted work permits and other favors from government and are afraid. This dude was even refused a taxi licence. What he needs to do is have a sit down with the Governor with the hope of him bring able to issue him with certain rights because he needs to be working at home where people come from far and wide to work. We know that people cannot be forced to hire him but there is no reason for him to be denied a trade licence to try and help himself.
