Radio host decries “vulgarity” at CGB show
Radio host Violet Gaul has raised alarm over what she described as vulgar behaviour during a recent music festival at Cane Garden Bay, stating the conduct was inappropriate and disrespectful to the Virgin Islands community.
Speaking on the Talking Points radio show, Gaul said images shared with her by her husband from the show were “sickening” and showed behaviour that “should not be happening in the BVI.”
“It was total vulgarity. Look at the behaviour of these people on stage. It was sickening,” Gaul stated. “We should not have that kind of… I don’t care who put on the music fest. I have no problem about having a music festival, you know. I don’t have a problem with that. What I have a problem with is we don’t seem to have any people who give two hoots about how they behave.”
She added, “Once upon a time in this BVI… those kind of things never used to take place. And I know we are in another age and another time, and things have changed, but they should not be changed to that extent.”
Gaul’s comments come amid public concern about the direction of cultural events in the territory. She lamented the decline in standards at such gatherings and called for greater accountability and community pride.
“Women and men have no problem in getting up on stage, behaving those kind of actions that they’re doing. Totally unnecessary, totally disrespectful to the community and to everyone,” she argued.
The criticism follows recent public discourse about how taxpayer funds are spent on entertainment events. Gaul had earlier questioned the cost of the music festival, suggesting that the money could have been better spent on fixing public roads.
“If money is being spent on things like that awful music fest… we should take that money and put it on our roads,” she stated.
The 2024 music festival faced criticism for its content and alleged lack of proper oversight. The event reportedly received government support despite public complaints about the nature of the performances and the expenses involved.
Gaul, a long-time voice in local media, encouraged residents and cultural stakeholders to reflect on how festival events align with Virgin Islands values.

As a painter and sculptor I have spent a lifetime depicting the beauty of the human form: nude rather than lewd.

Since you llve and has been living in this Black people’s nation neck of the woods Roger for so long, where are the local Black women in your so called art? Were you afraid to create images of them? or was it a notion more sinister that you didn’t?
@ anonymous
99% of the scores of sculptures and hundreds of paintings in my series “Daughters of the Caribbean Sun” depict those of African descent.
Take time to watch the video.
An honorary son of the soil, please respect him.
you just gabbing without know what the f you are talking about
You know, ppl stress too much over Soo many things for one simple reason..
They can’t mind their own business.. I understand where this lady is coming from but, you don’t like something just don’t be there, just as I don’t bother to got oany shitty music fest. It don’t bother me cause I don’t go to those things.
Just as you pointed out that “once upon a time in the virgin islands”,
Well once upon a time, church communities also worshipped with a clear conscience and a clear heart, now a days, it’s all about which church can collect more than the other, and who’s the biggest, do we complain? No…
You don’t like something, just don’t be a part of it…
That simple. Some things you can’t control as time passes.
Young people going to be young people . I noted that her husband was there but she wasnt. hmmmmm she might want to put more focus on that than any so called vulgarity on the stage. The vulgarity might be happing somewhere else 🙂
LOL! Unfortunately, please read the article again. She never stated her husband attended the Festival. She said he showed her the pictures that were patt of one of the online articles about the V.I. Music Festival. He was probably disturbed by what he saw and also recognised what he was missing. Lol!
This is the exact line in the article …..Speaking on the Talking Points radio show, Gaul said images shared with her by her husband from the show were “sickening” and showed behaviour that “should not be happening in the BVI.” …where does it say he obtained the images from an onlne article??
It still doesn’t say / suggest that he was there. I have had photos shared with me which I in turn shared with my husband on many things. It does not mean that I was there.
Completely agree with her. It is disgraceful and more people need to shun the foolishness.
When you have two so-called pastors that are a part of this Poker Run / Music Fest how can you expect any better.
They keep playing with God like there would be no repercussions!!!
Why you don’t stay home then? Simple. She want to give Lorna and the Premier a pass with losing our 5 million dollars to the bank of Asia but now she want to tell people how to dress and behave? It’s a music fest for God’s sake. Violet nearly 100 years old what she doing there in the first place? Chupes
Lawd a mussy u mek mi belly hut so early laughing
BVI gone 2 D dogs
When last yo tek on a b**kshot?
Lawd a mussy ayo badd, mi belly huting
Just look at that, it’s disgusting!
She right, them gone too far…Crossed the red line.
This young lady has no shame her … always bad talking other and calling down people well he pay for dance classes for her he invested his money well
Violet needs to go sit here prehistoric a** down! It was not a cultural show or a festival intended to represent us as a people! It was a private enterprise music festival on a beach where people wear bathing suits. The lil wukking up on stage was no different than what happens on our cultural stage every Emancipation festival for the past 50 years! …
Just a millimeter of fabric away from doing the deed. I would support this expression if it was not highly suggestive and so far removed from the skill of dancing. As a community we should be careful because some people might interpret this style as a form of nonconsensual dominance.
One can have a moment of joy, let the inhibitions flow, and have fun, but not at the expense of the children, a young mind just forming, and how the community is viewed internationally.
Those who promote this sort of vulgarism know not about how dogmas from the former enslaving culture are still being used in high places to discriminate and degrade us.
When your yard is dirty due to nastiness you must clean that yard.
Hence, there is no difference between that yard and public behaviors.
Last, morality can be legislated into law, it just has to be stopped being tolerated as a public display of having fun. Fun must be done with pride, decency, decorum and morality.
My days functioning as a musician in dance halls and parades, patrons would “wine” their behinds off, but it was kept clean and within the realms of good morality.
As, today’s methods of dance and celebration is clearly an insult to the ancestors, the reason to celebrate them the annihilation of all sense of good cultural norms for filth, indecency, smelly behinds and vaginas.
Dancing has gone the same way of the music, to the garbage dumps and sites of the nation.
Hence, this musing is not seeking a thumbs up or down for authorization of its ideas.
It seeks, however, to convey a matured and purified local thinking on an issue such as dance, vulgarity, public indecencies, or lack thereof, and respect for the children and the inculcation of good public personal manners for the future of this great economy and why they are being left behind.
This behavior has become so normal that people find nothing wrong with it. Festival is filled with such lawlessness, but hey it’s the culture right?? Teach the young ones from now just like a lot of you when you were growing up and filled with wickedness and some of you are proud to say what you used to do as kids…SICK!!
That is NOT behavior we were used to growing up. This is imported culture over the years and you know it so stop talking nonsense. This heightened vulgarity was introduced about 20 years ago. It was imported.
Mummy What is that man doing to that lady. Well son, I think he is giving her a service to keep her happy
Ms Violet, this is nothing new. Even in the August Monday Festival Parade, they carry on in that vulgar and shameful behaviour. This being viewed by children and senior citizens. I think that there should be some regulations as to how persons perform by way of entertainment in our Territory. For the ones who oppose your comments, God will deal with them with their disrespectful and wicked thoughts.
It’s a cultural thing
I agree, a cultural thing that has been IMPORTED over the years.
Now i really believe in kama her … talk about everyone children so bad even carry news and commes to delta management about other coworkers you reap what you sow more to come.
Millimeter..that’s some thick panty..there would have been some carpet burn after that
.
Mrs. Gaul simply called a spade a spade. Simulating sex acts on stage in front of a crowd is simply disgusting. To me what it simply means is you have no talent, so deflecting. Some persons are actually fine with this, which is sad, and lots are not. Sex is a private act that is done in private. What is next? They are actually going to take off their clothes and have sex right in front of you? And persons would probably have no problem with that either? Well, that is not of God. It is fire and brimstone nastiness and will be punished. The pastors who are associated with this mess should be repenting when they see these lewd acts on stage, but then “poker” suggests nakedness and gamblining so I guess they know what they were getting into. That is why I stay home, but the demons let loose from these ugliness acts are overpowering this little country. I plead the blood of Jesus over this Territory, Jehovah God. I plead the blood of Jesus over our children’s minds. Let them know that this is not right. It is not normal. It is sick, sick, sick.
And…our government and local CGB Pastors are supporting this. What does this say about the BVI?
Unfortunately it says that the BVI is like everywhere else in the world. I am so disappointed in our young people, how they dress and carry themselves in our country. This is not novel. Down in the Caribbean is worst and we are catchig the cold from their consistent coughing. The Caribbean and America.
We are small and cared about what we think about each other’s behaviour. Leaders of a flock cannot and should not lead the sheep astray. God will judge us all for our deeds here on earth. The Bible says not everyone who says Lord, Lord will make it into the Kingdom of Heaven. May his grace and mercy help us all to turn from our wicked ways and walk righteously. If we can’t, should we lead a flock?
Music festival to be enjoyed by all of all ages not to watch this 18+ on stage. It’s not art, it just horny people unable to contain themselves. When this is done so openly in public and is then accepted then this is when it becomes an issue. Would you be OK with your 18 yr old daughter doing this on stage in public? Didn’t think so. Keep it for the privacy of your own home.
HER HUSBAND WAS THERE ENJOYING EVERY MINUTE OF IT. He needed something he don’t get at home
Where does it say that her husband WAS there? I share photos every day with my spouse that I get over social media and from other persons. Was I there, NO, so stop ASSUMING.
These holier tban thou people in Tortola make me sick
Then LEAVE. Flight open at the airport EVERY day.
That’s why my and I stayed home those Jamaican women have no self respect with their vulgar dancing and lewd dressing
Nobody not saying here one can’t dance but that is not dancing
