RDA to issue 19 contracts, inject $40M in projects territory-wide

Acting CEO of the RDA Anthony McMaster.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Recovery & Development Agency (RDA) Anthony McMaster said the agency is gearing up to issue nearly 20 contracts that will “inject roughly $40 million in projects over the next 18 to 24 months”.

McMaster said this is the RDA’s way of ‘rising to the challenge’ of the coronavirus crisis and the challenge of rebuilding local infrastructure still damaged by the 2017 hurricanes.

“These projects will range in sub-projects which will include various sectors including government buildings, schools, road and retention works, water facility repairs and the update of port facilities, ”the acting CEO said on Friday, adding that the BVI will see the first half of that $40 million this year.

He continued: “Today you are just witnessing the signature of two contracts which will be the first of approximately 19 contracts expected to be awarded over the next 18 months thereabout. This year, the RDA has pledged to ensure that it injects a minimum of $20 million in capital investment works to the BVI.”

The two contracts were for work on the third phase of the Bregado Flax Educational Centre (BFEC) and repairs to the Flax Administration Building on Virgin Gorda.

The BFEC contract is valued at $1.7 million while the Flax Administration building is worth $1.2 million.

Meanwhile, McMaster said the RDA understands the impact that the virus has on the local economy and the agency is working to ensure that the funds are injected into the economy.

He also mentioned that part of Premier Andrew Fahie’s mandate was to ensure that there are equal opportunities for every BVI company to be able to bid and win contracts and the RDA intends to do just that.

“As such, commencing next week, we will be publishing our dates for our training programmes that would dissect the tender process, that would allow contractors to see what is required, and what they are required to do,” he stated.

It’s nice to see the government finally got their wish. Control of the RDA. It was futile to think that this agency was going to be allowed to continue with fair and clean hands. That’s just not done in the BVI

Ayo clueless sah…. Is only now the loan money gonna get wasted. They couldn’t figure out how to mismanage the money with the white boy there so they choose to not use the RDA for nothing…Until the guy get tired wasting his time and leave then they try to mislead the public saying that the RDA is doing nothing when is WE got to use the RDA… All those concerns the premier had about the terminology used when it comes to the powers of the RDA I guess they not concerns no more now that they appoint their own CEO. All of a sudden the RDA gonna pump 40 million in projects territory-wide… what change other than the CEO?….Yall better WAKE UP?

@ Mr. Nice, you need to shut up your trap. The agency you felt was squeaky clean have some imported ‘bad eggs’ within it. If our local don’t look sharp they will sabotage his efforts. Don’t worry Mac, I got your back in prayer. That lil ‘imported’ dynasty must be dismantled. The sooner the better.

“Fair and clean hands not done in the BVI?” Haven’t smelled the anuses of the rest of the capitalist, socialist and communist worlds lately. including that of your beloved country.

What capitalist land mass, island, state, country, nation or continent is governed with fair and clean hands?

Name one, please. US, UK, EU, Trinidad, St. Vincent, Jamaica or others? Stop it. In the era of information, ignorance is a choice.

Trust after verification. This the usual gimmick PR by people who caused failure in the Government systems. They spin to give the impression that they are doing big things. What is the truth? Somebody better check. It’s all smoke and mirrors!!

Anthony McMaster under your leadership, I know the best is yet to come for the RDA. The agency’s processes are second to none. They remain credible and continue to serve with integrity. Now with this new partnership to rebuild the economy, the sky’s the limit.
