Remedial works on the Virgin Gorda Police Station and the police barracks are expected to begin in a few weeks.

The roof of the police barracks which is located next to the station was damaged during last September’s hurricanes.

Lower sections of the building also lost windows and doors, while water damage further compromised the structure.

However, Sister Islands Coordinator Vincent Wheatley told BVI News that the matter is being worked on.

“The estimates should be finished by this week the latest,” he said.

According to Wheatley, actual work on the roof should commence next month.

A number of police officers who were based at the barracks have had to seek alternate housing accommodations with families and friends for the past five months, residents told BVI News.

“That is a disgrace,” one Virgin Gorda resident said.

“If the police them not happy, how can they do their work to serve us?” The resident then questioned.

Everything is always said to ‘begin soon’ here! Yet it rarely does!

  2. Sam the man says:

Just what I was thinking “crabs in a barrel” – every important scheme is always next month, start soon or being considered – after 5 months the ” No Direction Party” continue to procrastinate! And fail to get make meaningful progress – yet the Premier continues to state how satisfied he is with the progress being made…not sure that he’s in touch with reality…hope Dr Pickering hasn’t been sharing any leafy produce with him !

I must commend that resident, she hit the nail right it’s head. What a dragging feet government we have in this place.
