Residents should boycott Non-stop Concert

Cindy Rosan

Talk show host and political commentator Cindy Rosan has posited that residents should boycott the Non-Stop Concert that the BVI Tourist Board will host on June 30 to mark the commencement of direct flights from Miami to the territory.

Some sections have criticised the timing of the event and the $250,000 the government has earmarked for it. Critics say the money should, instead, be spent on failing public infrastructure or used to solve many social problems residents are facing.

Speaking on the Morning Braff radio show earlier this week, Rosan said a boycott by residents send a clear message that the public disapproves of the way the government is choosing to spend taxpayer dollars.

“Quite frankly, any platform I can get on [I will] tell people to boycott that concert straight up, one hundred per cent. I don’t care how anybody feels about it. That concert should be boycotted,” Rosan told host Heritage.

“If you’re talking about building something, doing a $250,000 concert a week out from festival — [that] is not the answer. And for Music Fest in 2024, there’s so much more you could do to build momentum to that. It doesn’t make any sense. Yes, the Premier can talk good for those who like to hear him talk. Everything he said was just nonsense and trying to make people feel good. But there’s nothing good about spending $250,000 at the end of this month,” Rosan argued.

She said the funds could have been used to assist residents who have fallen on hard times. Rosan also said it is still not clear how the concert will boost tourism, adding that she doesn’t believe many will travel from Miami just to attend the event.

“Who is using the Miami flight to come here to hear Konshens? It doesn’t make sense! As a promoter or event planner, when you use the word tourism, it all has to go together. Which tourist is coming in for it? Who is it attracting? We play too many games,” Rosan argued.

The Non-Stop Concert has triggered dissent from several sections of the community since it was announced by Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley. The territory’s leader has stood by his decision to host the event and has called on residents to support it as it is one of many attempts to build entertainment tourism in the territory.

Rosan I support you 100, I am sure that everyone will not heed your call to boycott but we pray for thunder, lightning and rain to bring a complete halt to this nonsense.

While we are on boycott, I renew my call to all expats to boycott a particular funeral establishment who owner called us filthy. She had the nerve, talking about the grey head wrong/W person. She claimed she went to our islands and the filth she saw was unimaginable. Can you imagine I believe she mistook our beautiful islands for just van dyke or annegarda. How can you leave a place like tola a d travel anywhere in the world and criticize filth, unbelievable.

All tola got is beaches, if you want to see scenery then head to one of the most beautiful places on earth Dominica. Our voices might not be loud but we can speak with our pockets. Expats we must boycott any local establishment that disrespects up. They was talk in some corners that it is the other funeral establishment behind these post. No they are not, if the other one is locally owned and disrespect our expats family we will have to find a way to ship our dead bodies to st Thomas. Check the prices way cheaper. If you are wrong you can’t be W..

I agree with the premise and point here. However, this is the BVI, ain’t nobody going to boycott the chance at a free concert even if it is paid for with their own tax money.

How we let our political elite get away with this I will never know. All while we watch our social society and infrastructure crumble.

One of our biggest cancers is that we elect leaders who have built nothing and then we wonder why they do nothing, build nothing, with the same results every election! But because of their political oratory, and the promise of a food hamper and t-shirt we flock to their bull$hit narrative then express our disappointment when those promised gifts are long gone!

When will we take this seriously as a society?

It’s okay to disagree with something quietly sometimes. Everything doesn’t require a boycott and attn seeking. I don’t care for the concert either but I want the BVI to do well. I don’t want the BVI to fail and then say ‘see I’m glad we failed b/c I disagreed with the decision’

  13. Fools says:

Nowhere did anybody say the concert cost $250K, it said $250K was allocated to BVI Tourist Board for various initiatives connected to the AA Flight, which included the concert. I personally think the 250K should’ve gone towards making festival longer/bigger/cheaper for persons to enjoy but it is what it is. Cindy is just bitter because it’s not her idea and she hates Sowande! If she was given a contract as promoter to spearhead the concert then we wouldn’t be hearing this nonsense. She thought she had influence during the campaign cycle and swore that she would’ve gotten Sowande voted out. There are many other pressing issues affecting the BVI and we cannot hear from Cindy and others on them.
