Rohan Williams found guilty of murder and rape

Convicted killer and rapist Rohan Williams.

The following is a media release from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Justice was served in the High Court on Friday, July 12, as Rohan Williams was found guilty on both counts for the murder and rape of Lenia Green, an incident that shocked the Georges Northside community in 2019.

Williams’ conviction marks the culmination of relentless efforts by the RVIPF and the dedicated team at the Director of Public Prosecutions office.

This verdict brings a sense of closure and justice to the family of Lenia Green and the community at large, who have been profoundly affected by this tragedy.

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins extends his heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to the police officers and civilian staff who worked tirelessly to ensure that justice was served.

Their unwavering commitment and collaboration were instrumental in securing this outcome. He will return for sentencing on November 14, 2024.

In the local vernacular of mind and speech, upper Caribbean is synonymous with updeislun and/or garrot.
The writer, rather than attempting politeness, kindness or genility would have been more to the point using, updeislun, garrot,StVincent or being more specific ,,”Updeislun Vincy Garrot”or UVG..lol.
Garrot (describes and identifies that particular demograhic penchant and most popular cultural pastime…garroting each other daily.
My neighbor introduced my ears to an oldie but Goldie…1950’s big calypso hit called” Garrot Bounce” by one Lord Nelson. She say that the garrots dem was bouncing in massive number to the Garrot Bounce. They were not offended to hear the dance hall and everywhere referencing them and their pastime of garroting . They would sing along louder and jump more than any body.

How offensive. I would hope that we are beyond this type of prejudice and tribalism of referring to others as “garrot.” Criminality is wrong irrespective of who commits it, so there is absolutely no support for local or foreign criminals. I entirely agree with deportation of foreign perpetrators of serious crimes on completion of prison sentences as there is no basis for such persons to be retained in a foreign country. However, there are undesirables in every society, island and nation – no need to descend to prejudice which is something which we as BVIslanders and people of colour have had to endure from others as well. Let us not perpetuate the same wrongs that have been perpetuated against us. We are bigger than this.

OK..So, why do we have to jail him?

Couldn’t we just deport him, if he’s deportable?

Why spend good tax money on “that”?

I don’t know how many murderers are in Balsum Ghut prison but I won’t be surprised if they are not all from, originated and family direct connected to that area and I remember that calypso..big hit of all times and they were proud to be recognized
      for what they
are truly noted. The dead bodies can be counted day by day. That is how they roll. The murder RAtE is higher than the US. Name it claim ,only then can you fix it..

The DPP office finally got a conviction. What happened? Could his family not pay the top dog off to lose the case because for the head of that dept to still have a job and being losing so many cases there has to serious money passing hands somewhere.
