‘Ronnie would never politicise new traffic laws’, Premier says

Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley has accused Opposition Leader Myron Walwyn of politicising the new fines proposed under the updated Road Traffic Act, suggesting that former Opposition Leader Ronnie Skelton would not have taken a similar approach.

Walwyn has rejected some of the proposed penalties, calling them excessive and accusing the government of using the legislation to recoup funds it allegedly mismanaged during its term in office.

But Premier Wheatley defended the proposed fines, arguing they are necessary to bring order to the territory’s roads. He also criticised Walwyn for what he described as politicising a national issue.

“We have to behave like statesmen and women and not just turn everything into a political battle because we want power. We are doing a disservice to the people,” the Premier said in response to Walwyn’s claims. “Ronnie would never do that, but that’s another story and we’ll have time to speak about that.”

Premier Wheatley and some members of his government chuckled at the jab aimed at Walwyn, who earlier this year replaced Skelton as Opposition Leader.

The Premier also took aim at an unidentified member of the Opposition’s Alliance faction, saying the individual once held the right political mindset but has now fallen into “bad company.”

“I know my good friend over there is not like that, but got into some bad company. He’s elected to follow a certain kind of leadership and a certain type of role model. We can do better,” Premier Wheatley stated. He later added that Walwyn tends to politicise issues during live sittings of the House of Assembly but adopts a more measured tone during the committee stage.

In the meantime, Premier Wheatley commended Works Minister Kye Rymer for introducing the proposed traffic legislation, saying he has taken a responsible approach despite opposition to the increased fines.

“If you do the right thing, you don’t have to worry about a fine. Let’s all practice some level of discipline,” Premier Wheatley added.

  2. Blah blah blah says:

Natalio would sing Ronnie’s praises obviously because he ran circles around him. Ronnie did nothing as opposition leader. Myron has them on their toes so of course they will come with this tactic. If it’s anyone playing politics it’s Natalio. Keep the pressure on Myron.

If I was the Premier I would prefer Ronnie also. He get away with murder with Ronnie as leader of the opposition. He weaseled out of the Vote of no confidence because Ronnie filed it wrong. He don’t have that luck with Myron. Where Ronnie would sit and say nothing or do nothing that is not Myron. Ronnie would have never have him under the kind of pressure that is under now with Bank of Asia. Myron got him on the ropes.

The VIP and the NDP join up now in their fear of Hon. Walwyn. I noticed this from watching the House of Assembly. You could see it. It look like a vote for the NDP is a vote for the VIP next election. I could see the two parties linking up just to keep the “island man” from being Premier.

You all have an American Premier, country upside down but you all aren’t saying anything. Guess that’s how you all like it.

A well-dressed island woman over the financial services and look where it led us. $10million gone, disappeared in a banking fiasco, the likes of which has never been seen in the BVI. Alot of “iconic” experts asleep at the wheel.

Both of them have the country in a quagmire.

Anytime someone who is your opponent in politics commend you it means you are no threat to them. And Natalio has played up Ronnie numerous times since Myron took over the position. To me I see him as fearful of Myron. He would prefer Ronnie against him because he would dominate him like he was doing.

Ronnie. Marlon and Natalio working together against Myron. Watch it you see. When Ronnie made his xenophobic remarks this same Natalio praised him as a patriot. This is about the third time Natalio is praising up Ronnie since he was replaced as opposition leader. I notice two things: Their hatred and fear of Myron has brought the three of them together and secondly Natalio does not see either Ronnie or Marlon as formidable opponents. Do you praise up people who on the opposite side of you in politics so often? He praise Ronnie cause Ronnie is no match for him. He talk his way around Ronnie while he fumbles to put a sentence together.

A message to the Premier, all other elected officials and the people of the Virgin islands:

    Please note again:

The Honorable Minister of Cabinet, one of our best minds in political service today, IS A NATURALLY BORD VIRGIN ISLANDER.

His roots are of African via Antigua via the Virgin Islands.

Our roots are from Africa via the Virgin Islands.

Hence, we are one people, but ignorantly seperated by the land biases and who the slave traders sold us to.

We the peope must get rid of the hate for ourselves and the psychological devision that seperate and still determines the progress we are not making for us

We must shed the snake skin of the crab in the barrel psychological disease that keeps us hating each other.

We must shed the inferoriy complexes that keep us mired in financial and human mediocrity.

Indeed, we should be working towards pooling our intellectual resources and skill sets towards briging the country out of wilful and negleced delapidation erosion.

We must, by putting new and vrilliant mind into sevice who will lookout for people and country first.

We must be sure that they are of ethical, moral and hygenic persuasions. We should no longer stand by and watch the misuse and decline of the peoples’ financial wealth, as such will eventually create hardship for the country and people into the future.

  14. Eldread says:

I can understand premiere Wheatley, Ronnie will never have him under all that pressure every step of the way, with Myron now sowandie got to engage his brains where as with Ronnie who will be fast asleep under the entitlement ideology would have let premiere Wheatley say or do anything and got off, like how he was able to shake if Ronnie no confidence motion, though I think it was staged and Ronnie wasn’t really going to do it.
But with the alliance oh boy! Those three guys are taking sleepy sowandie to task, keep up the work alliance and the people who behind you all.

  17. @ BOTTOM LINE HE WONT BE PREMIER says:

Becoming Premier is optimal, but is not the only valuable position in government.

Why don’t any of you question why you or none of your family members, friends, district reps and others cannot ascent to the governers post?

But you on here every day hating on one Black man who has as much rights here as you.

That’s a horible state of mind to be walking around these beautiful lands with.

Hate the slave/servamt, but love the master. A typical carry over mentality from the mental disfiguration that was a part of every slave mentality for centuries.

  18. ... says:

Stop portraying Natalio Wheatley as a political lightweight. He’s far more calculated and savvy than the public gives him credit for. His strategic alignment with Ronnie Skelton and Marlon Penn isn’t just cordial—it’s a power play.
Keep in mind: he has formally requested the creation of two Minister of State roles and two Parliamentary Under Secretary positions. Now ask yourself—who do you think he’s positioning for those roles?
What’s unfolding is a calculated attempt to dismantle the opposition, reminiscent of the dramatic shift in 1988 when Lavity Stoutt elevated Ralph O’Neal from Opposition Leader to Deputy Chief Minister. That move signaled the end for the United Party. Wheatley is clearly borrowing from that same playbook and seeking to break the back of the NDP.

As far as I see, the born here mentality and concept is destroying
    Moral
    Integrity
    Common sense
    The growth of the economy
The choice of productivity in choosing even the simple capabilities of jobs
The entire gamet of the work force
Even in the churches treatment of people
The BVI once a place of loving, caring population is now becoming a overwhelming place of hate, hypocrisy, criminality, curelity . Still grateful for the faithful few
Have mercy on prejudices that is now the driving force

  20. Focus says:

All of you are focus on the Premiere and Ronnie, while the real problem is Kye!!!Is this his legacy? To F..up the traffic worst than it is already? Kye is doing crap and has the worst track record of any communication and works minister in the BVI!!! HE has no clue and yet listens to no one with sense. He thinks he knows it all. He can’t take criticism and acts like a little b..ch, when you confront him. He is doing facial work in his district. From Huntums Ghut to the watch house, no further. Waste of time!!! As for the Premiere you all could never beat him with words in defense. That’s all he’s good at somewhat English.
