Rosan fires back at Premier over so-called ‘media threats’
Media owner Cindy Rosan has assured Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley that her platform, Guavaberry Media, will continue to publish stories related to the embattled Bank of Asia, which is currently undergoing a liquidation process.
The Bank of Asia is under intense public scrutiny, with concerns mounting over a reported $5 million deposit made by the government after the bank had already announced it was winding down operations.
While several local media outlets have been covering the issue, Guavaberry Media has published a series of exclusives, reportedly based on information from sources close to the government and agencies involved.
At a press conference yesterday, Premier Wheatley called on media houses to avoid slanderous and libellous reporting, warning that such actions could damage the territory’s reputation as a financial services jurisdiction.
Before the press conference concluded, Rosan responded directly to the Premier’s comments, cautioning him against what she described as threats to the media and promising further reporting on the matter.
“Unless you’re calling the court a liar and unless you’re willing to outline what is libellous and slanderous by the media, I’m just going to warn you and your government to cease and desist from the threats to the media because I don’t think it will end well,” Rosan said, as the host of the broadcast urged her to stick to asking questions.
Rosan continued: “I’m going to be putting out three articles tomorrow because I believe the people deserve the truth and the facts, so I suggest you get your fact checkers ready.”
The Premier did not respond to Rosan’s remarks, and the press conference ended shortly afterward.
Throughout the briefing, Dr Wheatley declined to share new details about the Bank of Asia matter, instead encouraging the public to await the outcome of an internal investigation.
