Rosan says electing VIP was the BVI’s worst mistake

Lead organiser of the ‘We the People are Fed Up’ motorcade protest, Cindy Rosan-Jones during the event on Saturday, June 12.

Social commentator Cindy Rosan has posited that electing the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) government is the worst decision the territory’s electorate has ever made.

Rosan made the statement on the April 3 airing of the Morning Ride radio show, while discussing the state of the territory. She said every day, the community is seeing the ramifications of electing the VIP government.

“The worst mistake the BVI ever made was to vote in a VIP government. It’s the worst mistake we’ve ever made! We see the ramifications of that decision every single day and it’s a disgrace. Nothing in the BVI works since the VIP was elected. Everything is trash,” Rosan argued.

She continued: “The private sector is complaining, government entities are falling apart, you can’t drive on the road without falling into a pothole, the sewerage is running in the street…”

She added that the situation is not only grim in Tortola but throughout the entire Virgin Islands.

The Natalio Wheatley administration is faced with the huge task of fixing the territory’s battered infrastructure which was damaged in major weather systems such as ‘Irmaria’ and more recently, Philippe. Amid much public criticism, the government is moving ahead with the repairing of many major roadways and port facilities throughout the territory.

On top of the infrastructural woes, the government is tasked with reviving the territory’s tourism, keeping financial services relevant amid numerous global threats and implementing a slew of good governance recommendations handed down by the UK through the Commission of Inquiry.

While some say the Wheatley administration is doing well with the cards they’ve been dealt, others have criticized them for misplaced priorities, saying they seem more interested in international travel than addressing the domestic issues which are frustrating residents.

I concur with Cindy. This govt is a dead. Even Kye who was the bright spark is now a dead. Key department like Tourist board is crumbling despite the many parties this party premier is pushing. Nothing new or exciting or visionary is happening. Infrastructure is crumbling with unstable water supply, riding electricity costs, horrid roads, sewerage everywhere, lines still above ground so the next hurricanes and we in trouble, d were elect vehicles everywhere, unmarked roads, overflowing trash bins in Town for tourists to see and smell. Even controversial Lorna has been a total waste and bright absolutely nothing to the table except Guyana Guyana Guyana! Can’t hear from the rest of them at all. I even forget that Karl was elected. Sharie alive? Luz roflmao! JVD school done but with no vision for 15 years from now. High school done but again with no vision for the future. Glad they gave Pickering his rightful job at Ports and gave Bego Anegada son his job.

Agriculture dead! Education dead! Healthcare dead and hospital barely surviving. Tourism barely holding on no thanks to Govt. Nothing new or visionary in Financial Services. Environmental issues still a problem. We haven’t embraced alternative energy! Gambling law still ain’t passed to bring in revenue. Marijuana law stuck. Prospect Reef still an eyesore! West end ferry terminal dead in the water! Airport (not runway) development can’t take off! HLSCC has done nothing new for the past 15 years except build a
basketball court! No development on Anegada. No development on VG. No development on JVD.

Kye’s spark is dwindling. The Premier is slowly rolling Kye under the tractor wheels. People were out here blaming Kye for not getting the roads fix, how can you fix the roads if you were not given enough money to fix the roads. The little bit of peanuts that were thrown to Kye can’t cover the cost to scrape tar from the street by the old prison to the festival grounds. But he have money to pay for music fest and set aside a huge chunk to fly first class and stay in LUXARY HOTELS. This damn sitting on water bottles on a dirty truck Premier is sinking this Territory deeper and deeper in the quicksand everyday. He better not make the mistake and allow the fleeing people from Haiti into this Territory.

I see it as well, the Premier is throwing Kye under the moving bus. He had everyone saying things about Kye and blaming him for not fixing the roads and sewers. How can he fix these things with the little bit of money that was given to his department? Kye don’t hold the Financial Portfolio. Damn crying shame this man can set aside all this money for traveling first class, star accommodations, a quarter of a million dollars for a ghetto party, stupid music fest for guest to drive on deplorable roads and walk in raw sewage. Kye you should seriously consider crossing the damn floor. That spark that was in you, the Premier AKA the s**w little boy is sucking it out of you.

        • @ Thank You says:

Kye’s family and relatives are VIP management so the only way he would cross the floor is if he stands up and be a leader not a yes man/follower.

      • Disappointment says:

As an elected official, Kye’s lack of substantial action since taking office has been a cause for concern. It is common for voters to select candidates based on personal likability rather than their actual competencies and qualifications. However, in Kye’s case, this approach appears to have resulted in inefficiency and lacklustre performance. Unfortunately, I can say the same for most elected officials.

Kye’s current role in such an important ministry seems beyond his capabilities, and there are growing concerns about his ability to carry out his responsibilities effectively. Despite this, his efforts seem to primarily focus on securing senior citizens’ support in his district to ensure his re-election every four years.

While effective in the short term, this approach raises questions about Kye’s commitment to addressing the community’s broader needs and fulfilling the duties of his assigned position. The electorate expects more than token gestures and short-term initiatives; they expect meaningful and impactful leadership. Please don’t blame funding for your lack of progress; take responsibility.

The individuals in our cabinet and House of Assembly are career politicians ensuring their salaries for the rest of their lives. Most, if not all, have opted to use a government vehicle, which means that all expenses related to the vehicles are covered by the government. Meanwhile, they have secretly increased their salaries and benefits to unreasonable levels. What’s concerning is that the opposition agrees with all this corruption, which well-placed senior public officers also support.

It is evident that every rope has an end, and Kye and his colleagues’ tenure does not seem immune to this reality. As an informed and engaged electorate, it is essential to hold elected officials accountable for their actions and demand tangible results and meaningful contributions to the territory’s well-being. Through this accountability, we can ensure that those in power truly serve the public’s best interests.

    .
The core issue at hand is the perceived (or factual) ineptitude of our Premier.

The lack of prioritization, and general feeling amongst the electorate that the Premier has no idea what he is doing, while his Cabinet just allows him to continue as the country’s confidence and morale continues to spiral downwards, is a very frustrating sight to behold!

At this point, my anger has almost passed the Premier and seriously question the Cabinet Members for allowing a dictatorship to flourish in a democracy. Surely, they see what we see? Yet, they allow this to continue. At some point, one would have thought, or one would at least hope, that pride in Country would be a priority over one’s self interests.

As for the VIP Congress – this group, has much to answer for to the Country too. Hiding in plain sight, these individuals have the most to answer for! The defacto rulers that no one voted for!

Afterall, if they choose to skin the sheep rather than shear it, there will be no wool left for anyone, and the sheep (Country) done dead!

Correction please. Last Elections The People begged Ronnie to contest Elections as We needed to get the Territory back on Track. Despite what others may say, Ronnie was the Best Man for the Job in these Turbulent times. When Ronnie was Minister of Finance He is the One who Made it possible for Virgin Islands Students get tertiary Education FREE at HLSCC. Ronnie is the One who gave Employees Payroll Tax Exemption for the First $10,000.00. This time around had Ronnie been Premier or Minister of Finance He would have increased the Payroll Tax Exemption to $15,000.00 and the Social Security Benefits would have been increased so the Elderlies won’t be crying everyday about Cost of Living High. NO ONE from the VIP will cross the Floor because they are ALL Power Hungry. Look at the Corner Woman keeping her Solo Press Conference Today at 10:00 AM. SOLO!!!

It was the ineptitude and selfishness of the opposition that put the VIP in . Deputy Smith’s decision was pragmatic. There was an inability to even form the government :worse chaos would follow trying to execute government functions and the consequences more severe.Getting elected is easy governing is difficult, they were unable to accomplish the easy part. .Is there opportunity with VIP I am sure there is but let’s put forward some concrete solutions. It’s easy to criticize and it is everyone’s right to do so, however with that right comes some responsibility to put forward executable idea’s.

We complain about the Opposition not being effective, but at the end of the day, all they can do is complain. They walked out of the HOA and business continued as if they didn’t. They are powerless.

I, however, remember that when Hon. Skelton was Finance Minister things were getting done without this wastage and high price tags for everything. I remember everyone saying that Hon. Skelton was too tight with the money. One thing for sure, he is a doer. He gets things done when he has the power to do so. Not a talker, but he is a work horse. I wish we had the opportunity to see him attack all these issues we have one at a time and get them behind us. And we all know that he is capable and willing. Why? He knows business; he is a decision maker; he is a builder; and he has experience in these things. We wanted youth in Government, but youth without experience and focus is what we got. Wonderful all of them are, on both sides. They are bright all of them on both sides. Who would I want to assist me if I need to build a business and lift it up off the ground, the Opposition seems to be the most experience and ready to help us. We can continue to pray for our country for God is in the pray answering business. We have to remember that love and kindness will make things a lot nicer around here.

With everything that’s going on, or, not going on perhaps the population should be asking themselves whether we would be better off with UK rule for a period of time. Clearly no one is happy with the local politicians or the job they are doing, so, what’s there to lose by letting the UK clean the political situation up. The UK are in a position to restructure education and healthcare, fix our infrastructure issues all on their dollar, seems like a deal made in heaven. Perhaps it’s time the people demanded a referendum on the subject because the government clearly won’t do it, and the UK probably won’t suggest it because of the cost to UK tax payers. It’s therefore down to the people.
