Rotaract donates to Cancer Society

The Rotaract Club has footed the bill for a mammogram and ultrasound for two needy persons in the territory. The club did so by donating to the BVI Cancer Society.
The $390 donation was handed over on Tuesday (March 13) at the building that houses the BVI Social Security Board in Road Town.
The club gave the donation as it celebrates World Rotaract Day, which recognises the anniversary of the first Rotaract Club founded in North Carolina 50 years ago.
“Normally what we would do is we would pay for our members to participate in the annual walk/run towards Cancer Society. But, because of Hurricane Irma, we didn’t have it so we decided that it was necessary to continue our donation to the society,” President-elect Reba Thomas told BVI News today.
“We decided to give an ultrasound and a mammogram to persons that need the procedure,” Thomas added.
She said the BVI Cancer Society has already identified the beneficiaries.
In the meantime, the club is also celebrating Rotaract Week.
The club kicked off its week of activities with a book exchange in Antigua when club members visited the country for a training conference from Thursday to Sunday.
