Rotary refurbishes St George’s bus stop

PRESS RELEASE: Public Image Director of the Rotary Club of Tortola Mitsy Ellis-Simpson and a team from the BVI Rotary family had the opportunity of giving the St George’s Bus Shed in Road Town, a much-needed refurbishing, cleaning and painting for the use and enjoyment by students of the St George’s Primary and Secondary Schools and residents.

The bus stop was replaced with a railing which was lost in Hurricane Irma.

It was further power washed, sanded, bleached and received a completely fresh coat of warm colour paints.

It was also branded with the Rotary International’s Wheel (Mark of Excellence).

Once used by the Department of Motor Vehicles, the bus stop has served several purposes in the capital city for over a decade.

It is now primarily used as a safe and sheltered space for students to wait on their school bus or parents.

It’s attractive location further creates an enlightened spot for entertainment and churchgoers.

Director Ellis-Simpson said: “The project was one that she initiated to enhance the capital city and create positive awareness in the community. We will be working with the St George’s schools to create a positive awareness theme at the bus shed. It could be in the form of achievements, drug-free zone, education or such. We have a great opportunity to work with the St George’s Interact Club and the school body to make this area one that the students can be involved with in a positive way. I’m very pleased to involve our youth arm including the Rotaract Club of Tortola which helped bring life to this project. Our Rotary International’s global campaign theme of ‘People of Action’ is certainly in force to bring inspiration through positive change in our communities.”
