Runway maintenance forces days-long closure at VG airport
The Taddy Bay International Airport in Virgin Gorda will be closed for several days so authorities can undertake a scheduled maintenance at the facility.
Managing Director of the BVI Airports Authority, Kurt Menal notified the public on Monday of the airport’s closure starting today, August 29 to Thursday, September 7.
Menal said the closure was necessary to facilitate the airport’s annual runway maintenance programme and urged travellers in possession of confirmed tickets for travel during the downtime to contact their respective airlines directly for information regarding their travel.
The Managing Director extended thanks to the traveling public in Virgin Gorda for their patience and cooperation as the authority seeks to uphold its motto of “Safety is our #1 Priority”.
He also encouraged persons to contact the Operations Department at (284) 394- 8000 or via email at [email protected] should they have any queries or concerns regarding the closure.
Airports in the BVI have seen a number of abrupt closures over the past few months, including the territory’s main airport, the Terrance B Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island, which has resulted in a number of hiccups for the travelling public.
The closures have also affected flights coming in from the recently introduced American Airlines fleet.
Some of these closures have allegedly been due to pending industrial action by staff, although this has been vigorously denied by management who described these closures as operational issues. Other instances have included closures for ‘technical issues’ that arose.
