RVIPF charges man with possession of prohibited gun and ammo

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has charged 32-year-old George Ollivierre Jr. with possession of a prohibited firearm and two counts of unlawful possession of explosives.

According to an RVIPF press release issued on Monday, February 10, Ollivierre was found in possession of 35 rounds of .45 caliber ammunition and one round of 9mm ammunition during a targeted operation in the Threadfall Estate area on Friday, February 7.

The RVIPF stated that Ollivierre’s arrest stemmed from a targeted operation under suspicion of keeping an unlicensed firearm. While three males were arrested in total, no further details have been provided regarding the other two individuals.

Ollivierre remains in police custody as he awaits his appearance before the Magistrate’s Court, for which a date has not yet been set.

Acting Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool reiterated the severity of firearm offences, emphasising the RVIPF’s commitment to community safety.

“The public is reminded that possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition is a serious offense, and law enforcement will take all necessary actions to ensure the safety of the community,” Vanterpool stated.

The department also urges the public to report any known illegal firearms or suspicious activities to Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS) or, for international reports, at 284-800-8477. Additionally, the RVIPF Intelligence Unit can be reached at 368-9339.

Crime in the territory has risen by 12 percent, with gun-related offences being a primary concern. The RVIPF has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing illegal firearm possession and gun-related crimes in the British Virgin Islands.

  7. @Omari says:

Even if customs and immigration are guilty of such, why did you leave out the known culprits such as the MIDDLE EASTERN ARAB CONNECTION for hashish, cocaine, crack, oxy’s and others, the white community who has never answered to neither customs, immigration or police?

Not all of the local population are as clueless as they make them out to be, and they are never courted by a new governer as he takes up duties. Ever wonder why?
