RVIPF officially charge USVI man found with over 200 rounds

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has charged Shamauri Camsel, a native of St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands, with unlawful possession of explosives following his arrest on Wednesday, January 15.

According to the RVIPF, Camsel was apprehended after reports of gunfire in the western end of Tortola. Police intercepted a suspicious vehicle during their response and, upon searching it, discovered over 200 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

Camsel has since been remanded at His Majesty’s Prison following his court appearance.

The RVIPF also reported three other gun-related incidents on the same day, including the tragic murder of 20-year-old Quentinn Noel, who was fatally shot near his home in Purcell Estate in the early hours of the morning. This marks the first murder of 2025 and underscores the rising gun violence within the community.

In a related development, four men were arrested during an intelligence-based operation in Cane Garden Bay on Friday, January 24. A search warrant executed at the location led to the discovery of two firearms and several rounds of ammunition.

The RVIPF has recorded a 12% increase in crime for 2024, largely driven by organized gang activity, including burglaries, robberies, and escalating gun violence. Late last year, Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) Kenrick Davis expressed concern over the uptick in gun-related crimes across the territory.

Police continue to urge residents to report any suspicious or criminal activities confidentially. Individuals can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS) or 284-800-8477, or reach out to the RVIPF Intelligence Unit directly at 368-9339.

He ran over here because he knew he can walk around free here without any type of detection from the BVI law enforcement. If you are in the BVI legally, you have nothing to worry about. If you are in the BVI illegally, you should start worrying . If you want to enter another Country do it the right way. When you are illegal you have to continue looking over your shoulder. FYI, marring or having a child by a local to stay in the Country is no longer going to work. That is soon coming to an end like shotgun weddings.

Give him the maximum jail time he can get for that offense. Is time to start sending a stronger message. First step is to get a DPP who can actually get convictions.
